(5,790 posts)Once that is done, the Constitution says that whoever (whomever??) they select is the next President. The armed services are sworn to defend the Constitution (against all enemies -- foreign and domestic). The opposition is free to say what they want; write what they want; and protest peacefully. They are also free to avail themselves of any legal remedies offered by the courts. However, they are not free to engage in insurrection or attempt to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power.
