A mere week after its election-night triumph, the Republican Party is fracturing more deeply and sharply than anyone had anticipated. Donald Trumps simultaneous appointments of Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and alt-right publisher Stephen Bannonan establishment moderate and a white-nationalist renegadeto co-equal positions set the stage for what promises to be all-consuming internecine warfare in the White House and beyond.

(34,845 posts)As much damage as will be done by Trump and his Deplorables, this will only further diminish the GOP. Trump's win was a fluke. The GOP will be as much a victim as everyone else.

A fire wall of resistance is going to be required and we need to start working on 2018 elections asap.
