Which strongly suggests that they know his victory may fall apart under examination. Here's the complaint his lawyers filed.

(63,923 posts)Freaking con artist inhumane person he is. He freaking stole the election, and laughing all the way to the BANK with his merry men!
dumbing down of the people will continue. horrible that we who have brains have to go through this lunacy.
But the kissing up to this man scares me, from the media, congress and everything else in between. How people have given up their ideals and moral standings I use that loosely for this stupid man. He has conned them good.
Also our standing in the world will be laughed at.

(2,580 posts)Seriously doubt a recount will change any results in a meaningful way but no harm in doing it.
Facts- Trump won for a number of reasons:
1- Way more racists came out from under their rocks than I could have imagined. I want to think we're better than that- we're not to our eternal shame.
2-Voter suppression efforts by the GOP at a minimum, probably kept 2-5 million Dem voters from voting.
3-Electoral College is antiquated, unfair and a real threat to democracy.
4- HRC most qualified candidate maybe ever but virtually zero charisma.
As I see it, best chance to convince electors to deny Trump is to stress the EC issue.
The only way to get the GOP to move on changing the EC is to make it cost them.
Take away their Trump win and watch how fast they vote to eliminate the Electoral College.
That's the approach I'd take to convincing electors to consider being "Faithless".

"Study Finds Republican Voter Suppression Is Even More Effective Than You Think
For years, researchers warned that laws requiring voters to show certain forms of photo identification at the poll would discriminate against racial minorities and other groups. Now, the first study has been released showing that the proliferation of voter ID laws in recent years has indeed driven down minority voter turnout, and by a significant amount.
In a new paper entitled Voter Identification Laws and the Suppression of Minority Votes, researchers at the University of California, San Diego Zoltan Hajnal, Nazita Lajevardi and Bucknell University Lindsay Nielson used data from the annual Cooperative Congressional Election Study to compare states with strict voter ID laws to those that allow voters without photo ID to cast a ballot. They found a clear and significant dampening effect on minority turnout in strict voter ID states.
For example, the researchers found that in primary elections, a strict ID law could be expected to depress Latino turnout by 9.3 points, Black turnout by 8.6 points, and Asian American turnout by 12.5 points.
The impact of strict voter ID was also evident in general elections, where minority turnout plummeted in relation to the white vote. For Latinos in the general election, the predicted gap more than doubles from 4.9 points in states without strict ID laws to 13.5 points in states with strict photo ID laws, the study found. That gap increased by 2.2 points for African Americans and by 5 points for Asian Americans. The effect was even more pronounced in primary elections. "

"Former aide: GOP lawmakers privately touted voter ID as helping them win elections
State Sen. Mary Lazich, urging fellow Republican senators to enact a voter ID requirement in a closed-door meeting in 2011, told her colleagues to consider its impact in the Democratic strongholds of Milwaukee and the states college campuses, a top aide to a former GOP senator testified in federal court Monday.
Congressman Glenn Grothman, serving at that time as a state senator, said in the same meeting that he supported voter ID because it would help Republicans win elections, according to the aide, Todd Allbaugh.
Other Republican lawmakers in the meeting appeared giddy at those prospects, Allbaugh testified. At the time of the meeting, he was chief of staff to then-Sen. Dale Schultz, R-Richland Center.
What Im concerned about here is winning, Grothman, of Campbellsport, told his GOP colleagues, Allbaugh said."

(24,461 posts)Donald Trump getting the kibosh from the Electoral College would be the greatest thing to happen to this country's citizens . . . including Donald Trump.
Donald. BRUH.
You have ZERO idea what you're getting yourself into, and the more you keep telling yourself "Yes, I'm Prepared", the more of a lie it becomes. Running the country is in no way, shape or form like running a business, nor should the two concepts ever intersect.
You're on track to be the most hated man in modern American history; many of those haters being the very brain surgeons who voted for you.
Your administrative picks display zero balance and less. The richest of the rich, the most batshit of batshit. This isn't a government, this is a SHAM.
Most of what you promised your throng cannot be accomplished in a representative government. The other few things, you would have never been able to do anyway. Giving companies free money will inspire them to lay workers off by the metric ton. You're not going to bring jobs back. No one's going to bring jobs back. Corporate greed is a Pandora's box that ain't closing. Search me how your precious Capitalism survives with no GMI, a chopped social safety net and too few jobs for the millions of people that need them.
Let them get on with this recount and go run your businesses. You don't want any of this. Trust me. YOU DON'T. Put this in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing. For all of us, G. Including you.

(1,714 posts)All three states would need to flip in order to overturn the election. So, if the first one falls through, whether because Hair Fuehrer's lead is maintained, or his Michigan challenge is upheld, or whatever, will Jill Stein drop the rest of it? Will it be all over at that point? I haven't read anything about any of the "what ifs."

(7,637 posts)On the account of rigged elections, there would be enough outcry to get the supreme court to issue a country wide recount. Especially if this confirm the meddling by russia, something the intelligence community is already strongly suspecting.
texasmomof3
(108 posts)They can at best send it back to the states which is exactly what happened with Bush/Gore. One flipped state not going to happen. I think Trump fights back and starts looking into states he lost by a narrow margin. It would be a state by state decision.
drray23
(7,637 posts)Yes, i do know the supreme court cant act first but they can respond to lawsuits. In the case of bush vs gore there was not the strong suspicion a foreign power had meddled in the election. I think this raises the stakes significantly.

(108 posts)I mean she did say to accept the outcome and that there was no hacking. While I am all for the recount it is pretty hypocritical.
Ford_Prefect
(7,921 posts)They don't accept the reasoning because they can't grasp how simple hacking the vote can be if you own the machines and the process of distributing the software patches. This is to say nothing of being in charge of the count with no transparency and no national standards and no independent oversight.
While it is unlikely that proof of how the vote was hacked will be found, the patterns of voting results make clear that something happened to the vote count.
Hillary is a noted contrarian and has had time to reconsider her assumptions. She is also the consummate establishment Democrat and unlikely to publicly argue against the establishment POV. Supporting Stein's contention of a fair & reliable count gives her cover to pursue the idea that she will fight the Republicans without confronting the essential contradiction you mentioned.

(8,774 posts)Greg Pallast said Wisconsin keeps raising the fees and won't let all the votes get counted - really trying to discourage a fair recount. Wisconsin really doesn't want the votes counted. Trump knows Hillary won Michigan and PA sounds like it was so easy to steal.
