Although I have been visiting DU for years, I am new to posting on DU (one previous post). This is why this message is posted as a response in this thread.

Last night I initiated a petition on the White House Petition site concerning the letter President Obama will leave in the oval office desk for Trump on January 20 - inauguration day. It asks the President to attach to that letter the copy of the United States Constitution that Khizr Khan brandished during his stunning speech at the Democratic National Convention in July. I am hopeful that this action will bring home to Trump - if only slightly - the signal significance of his oath that he "will to the best of [his] Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

I am asking all DUers to join with me by signing this petition. I copy below the text of my petition and ask that those who are willing to join me to go to the web page for this petition (URL below) and take the very simple steps required to sign it.
Petition Title: That President Obama Attach to the Letter that He Will Leave for His Successor Khizr Khan's Copy of the Constitution

"Petitioners request that the President Obama take the following steps re the letter he will leave in the oval office desk for his successor on January 20 (the “Letter&quot .

1. Contact Khizr Khan and ask him to give the President the copy of the U. S. Constitution which Mr. Khan used at the Democratic National Convention in July, and, at the same time, suggest that Mr. Khan request that that copy be attached to the Letter.

2. That the President include in the Letter language to the effect that for his successor's edification and at Mr. Khan's request, he has attached said copy of the Constitution.

3. That the Letter, together with the copy of the Constitution, be left in the aforesaid desk drawer before the President leaves office."

I used to cajole a couple people who would say that about Pres Obama. "Yes, he IS your president. You dont have to like it, but he IS"
If trumop goes into office then he IS my president even if i dont like him. Otherwise i'm no different than those other people. Doesnt mean i have to agree with his positions.
