Senate Democrats dig in as shutdown approaches

Doing outreach already!

And we'll go to the mats for you! Too bad you didn't trust us.

Senate Democrats are digging in their heels over health benefits for miners in a government funding bill, raising the risk of a shutdown at midnight on Friday.

"We're going to win this fight, we cannot predict the path, but we're going to win this fight because we're right," Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said.

Schumer, as well as Democrat Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va), Bob Casey (Pa.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Sherrod Brown (Ohio) and Mark Warner (Va.), held a press conference with coal miners as they sought to ramp up the pressure on Republicans to strike a deal.

Democrats are holding up the continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government as they push to include a one-year extension of healthcare for thousands of miners and their families. The spending measure now includes a four-month extension.

As I noted in another thread, one of the basic differences between Ds and Rs is that Ds still generally look out for the people who didn't vote for them.

If those red miners are anything like the rednecks here, they want nothing less than every Dem swinging from a tree branch or in a gun site. I'm not making that up. True, their a mistaken mob driven by RW TV & radio, but after about the tenth time being bitten by these schmucks, I'd just as soon let them reap what they've sown. Vote republican. You get what you deserve.

I hope that the miners notice who's fighting for their asses. And especially who's fighting against them!

Most people are short sighted. Dems may save their health care and give them more freedoms, but the promise of $100 in tax breaks(That give billionaires a $100m break) will make them vote Republican again.

They're suicidal and want the food taken out of their children's mouths. Or at least, they're acting that way.

And at midnight Friday night, we have a government shutdown - over funding benefits for miners for a year, not four months.

That's a fight I'd like to see.

Fcuk 'em. Let the Republican agenda steamroll the miners. Let the Reps own it, then turn it into a 30-sec hit piece. Maybe they'll listen to that.
