Thomas Edison's first invention was a machine to quickly allow voting and tabulating the votes in a legislature like Congress.
It didn't catch on. People laughed, and with good reason.
The voting and counting in a place like Congress was slow by design. Legislators want it to take forever so they can hold back their vote until they know how the wind is blowing, make deals, etc..
Probably the last naive thing the ruthless Mister Edison ever did.
