Imagine a Democratic Party WITHOUT super delegates

Before you pile on, this is asking an honest question.

The super-delegates were created to prevent a candidate from winning the nomination when the establishment considered them a weak candidate (At least, that's my understanding).

What is your opinion?

Edited and only asking for an opinion.

Yet the results stand and are unchangeable.

This isn't fighting the primaries again, Bernie lost according to the rules in play at the time. It's simply an opinion question.

Because super delegates are not the only hurdle for a dark horse candidate. Bernie would have come much closer, but the southern primaries and Super Tuesday are still designed to heavily favor the establishment candidate.

for flame wars to be kept to a minimum. It's cute. Not particularly persuasive, but still ... cute.

My vote in the poll was for Bernie winning. Not cause I think he would have but without the SDs it would have been closer.

I'm not a fan of the superdelegate to be honest. I don't think it represents the people as well as just a delegate.

I would assume a flame war means people won't actually discuss this.

what caused bernie to tank in my opinion was the way the super delegate count was held out and worshiped by the media so that it appeared to be all over before it was all over.

in my state bernie won by a good percentage and yet the super delegates pretty much all went to hrc....well come next state convention some of the state party types who were super d's are up for re election,.....feet will be held to the fire

I find the whole situation surreal. Yeah, there's certainly something unappealing about the superdelegate concept, but it's surreal that democrats are pining for a primary system like the republicans have and republicans (and pretty much the whole planet) wish the gop had the system the democrats have.

The super-delegates are there to give an "insurmountable" lead to their desired choice. I'd rather see who wins on voters choices.

so I don't know why everyone fears them so much - but I also like that it rewards people who've committed years to the party, and that it provides a safety net.

Caucuses are incredibly undemocratic and unrepresentative, they have no place in our system.

But this poll makes no sense, Hillary won a majority of pledged delegates, so if there were no super delegates...she still would have won.

The prospect that superdelegates would overrule registered dems and voters of color would not have prolonged dead primary bids. This goes for Hillary's 3 days of lingering in 2008 and Bernie's month+ in 2016.

We can fight the super delegate battle in 2020. There are other things to talk about right now. I suggest we talk about those.
