We're not buying it - he remains the quintessential definition of the 'ugly American' - and he's a woman hating racist, crass and racist to boot. Fuck this shithound. Sorry America - here endeth all pretense of moral standing.

Hoping to see friends who live in Lyon and Paris. The friend in Lyon is an American and totally
embarrassed by the election of Trump. The friend in Paris is French and hoping her country
doesn't elect Le Pen.

(63,221 posts)I am always so interested in hearing how the rest of the world sees our madness.
Also, have a lovely time. Strasbourg is beautiful! Make sure you try the tarte-flambe and the choucroute as well as their wonderful crepes. At night they do a light show on the cathedral. It's really beautiful! Of course Paris is wonderful and I have not been to Lyon or Bordeaux, but I would really love to hear of your travels if you get a chance.
I don't have the money to travel these days, so I have to live vicariously of the tales of others.

(31,182 posts)Steve Bannon and KK Konway don't have the stuff to change public opinion. He has entered office with the lowest "popularity" of any President since polling began.

(50,278 posts)His rapid turn around yesterday re Obama is a good example. In the morning we get the notorious nasty tweet, then Obama calls him up and probably scolds him and suddenly Trump acts semi-normal. The real question is whether he's sane or putting on his reality show act. Personally, I think he's batshit crazy.

(38,317 posts)I get my local news from our local newspapers, which sadly are shadows of their former selves. I get my national and international news from international sources.
Television news in the U.S.A. is largely useless. We used to make fun of Soviet Pravda. Our TV news is now like that, but with really obnoxious advertising, some of it posing as news.
Even most "public" broadcasters in the U.S. are entirely dependent on corporate donations and avoid stories of corporate malfeasance, not wanting to bite the hands that feed them.
In this environment I think it's almost better to be an uninformed non-voter than a misinformed voter. That's certainly the case with most Trump voters.
The most disturbing Trump voters are his affluent white male voters. Many of them are grifters just like Trump, little remoras catching a ride on the great Republican Party shark and feasting on its victims.
