Sean Spicer Warns Media: Business as Usual Is Over

Sean Spicer Warns Media: ‘Business as Usual Is Over’

http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2016/12/29/sean-spicer-warns-media-business-as-usual-is-over.html?via=desktop&source=copyurl

"SNIP...........

In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Thursday, Donald Trump's incoming press secretary Sean Spicer declared that when it comes to the White House's relationship with the media, "Business as usual is over." Spicer, who previously served as communications director for the RNC, would not promise that Trump will "keep up a regular and as energetic a series of press conferences as previous presidents," in Hewitt's words. "I think the thing that you’ve seen with Donald Trump is that he doesn’t, he doesn’t look to the past and say I’ve got to conform to these precedents," Spicer said. "He figures out what’s the best way. And so maybe we do, you know, a series of press conferences, but maybe we do some town hall, you know, Facebook town halls. Maybe we go out and solicit input from Twitter. I don’t, I mean, the answer is we’re looking at a lot of things."

Hewitt also asked Spicer if Trump would subject himself to interviews with left-leaning "critics," giving as an example MSNBC host and The Daily Beast contributor Joy-Ann Reid. Spicer would not speak to Reid specifically, but did say that Trump sees value in speaking to media outlets that may not agree with him 100 percent of the time. "We’re not going to win a battle whether The New York Times is going to ever give us a fair shake or not," he said. "But we recognize that there’s, you know, a few thousand readers or so left that still look at The New York Times, and so it’s worth, probably, talking to them I think. And so, we’re going to utilize various outlets to continue the conversation."

twitter and play while his staff do the townhall. Plus nobody can ever test that he is informed on anything. He can relax and read all the asskissers all day long. Nobody will know if he is being briefed on important matters.

The paper's print version has the second-largest circulation, behind The Wall Street Journal, and the largest circulation among the metropolitan newspapers in the United States of America. The New York Times is ranked 39th in the world by circulation. Following industry trends, its weekday circulation has fallen to fewer than one million daily since 1990.[10]

It was a deliberate insult, meant to provoke. Every time the NY Times responds it helps Trump.

They will discover very quickly that press conferences are not meant to inform but to try to control the narrative. Without them the media will run hog wild on every story and they will not like it.

The ignorance of these fools is a constant spectacle.

In both cases, I think that was a disservice to the American people. I don't recall that Bill Clinton did that many, but at least I can remember him doing some.

8. The popular media are deciding on their new standard now

Trump will continue to enjoy special treatment from the popular media, which has pardoned and excused all kinds of behavior they used to think was quite serious once upon a time. Trump, who never served in the military, has bad-mouthed veterans, mocked those suffering from PTSD, claimed to know more than any of the generals, and yet hasn't suffered a bit for any of it. Trump has denigrated working people as lazy do-nothings who don't even deserve to be paid a minimum wage, yet nobody in the media has taken him to task for it. And those are just two examples; imagine another politician who could have said any of the foregoing, and whether they'd be completely let off the hook for it.

Talk about grading on a curve! This is one hairpin that's in constant flux and motion, driven by a media that is so afraid of being labeled "unfair" by Trump that they'll excuse or explain away anything. In this case, Spicer's just serving notice to the rest of the country not to expect too much from the media in its coverage of the Trump administration. If the media objected to Spicer's comments, you'd think they'd say something. They won't; what does that tell you?

we know Trump was the one responding to the questions, and not one of his handlers? This is beyond pathetic, and an abject admission that the soon-to-be president is too stupid, uninformed, and unfit to answer a few unscripted questions from the press or the citizens he supposedly serves. What a bad joke, and what a coward. Orange is the new "yellow." Our founding fathers must be turning over in their graves.

He will not do any event in which he is expected to answer alone because he can't. He can only read from a teleprompter. Or they trot someone else out to help him while he sits there - like every time he "talks" about his child care policy they put Ivanka out to do the talking and he sums it up by saying, "It's a tremendous program." Totally incompetent.
