Charlie Rangel's Anti-Obama Robo Call: Not Rangel Funded and Alerted

This is in reference to my post here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002840685

In that post it seemed people assumed that I actually fell for it. I would never have hung up the phone if I did fall for it. I do however like to stand on the side of neutrality, since I have been proven wrong time and again on positions I may take in earnest. However, no I did not believe Rangel would be anti-Obama in any way shape or form.

I called the Washington DC location as recommended by MADem -- Which I would like to thank a lot for in regards to how to react to the robo call. I have had robo calls before but once I hear Bloomberg I just hang up because I can't really fight that system. However, when it directly involves my Disctrict Congressman...well, that's another story.

I have made no apology for my dislike of Rangel. It's not so much him as a person but actually his office and how it's run (poorly), which I find to be a reflection of a political leader. For instance I love and adore Gillibrand's office and her..her stance's are perfectly in line with me now (I say now, because before this position she had a few right wing positions) and her office is great. Rangel shares some of my positions...but he utterly failed us on the public option fight and his office is the worst I have ever had to deal with (super rude and incompetent people). I really started to despise this sort of position. I tend to vote for his Dem competitor but I know Rangel will NEVER go away, well if he had to choose. Not to mention, as my friend once said to me..."I don't like Rangel, but I know Harlem would be destroyed without him."

In any event, the robo call was anti-Obama. Some saw it as an attack on Charlie Rangel, but it seemed even his campaign office saw it as an attack on President Obama and assured me that they would never do anything like that and obviously (which I knew), they wouldn't use a company based in Chicago for that. They would use a New York company. So I gave them the phone number, the time it happened and what not and they are on top of that.

Apparently the campaign was oblivious that people were receiving anti-Obama robo calls. They were going to take care of it.

Now, some might care, most might not. Did my feelings on the Rangel office change since I called the Washington branch. No, it did not.

I called, explained the situation. But the person on the line seemed hesitant and unsure. I asked him for the third time if it's him I was supposed to speak too. I had initially asked if I can talk to him about Robo calls. He was like...yes/no and I asked yes or no. He said fine. I went on and then I asked again he said it would be best to call the campaign office. They could have given me that number from the beginning. I call the "campaign number" given to me and they're like we're the fund-raising department and then they transfer me over to the campaign department. I'm glad I asked for the campaign department number before hand. I call them and I asked them whom I speak too about robo calls and they transfer me. A person answers, but when I say robo calls they hang up the phone on me. Note at this time, I'm rather pissed off. But I'm also determined.

I call the campaign office again. I told them that I was hung up on and I need to speak to someone about robo calls. I get transferred but the person on the line assumed I was calling about being hired to MAKE robo calls and he said something along the lines they haven't made a final decision yet Anyway, I clear up that detail and say that I have received a robo call. He said well they haven't even started with them and hence the reason he thought it was me. When I explained I received it from Chicago---he said that's another key since they would never use a company outside of New York. When I explain what the robo called said, as mentioned previously he was shocked and took all the details down. I gave my name and where I lived and the time it happened.

This kind of run around is irritating to say the least. However, I was glad the final person I talked too was concerned and knew how to handle it. Hopefully they can take some action against those things happening.
