Would a Republican Congress with a Republican President pass such a thing?

(593 posts)and from what we have experienced under the last Republican gov't, I think they are controlled by a bunch of nuts.
I'm just wondering if they have within them the ability to act in a way to save America if we were to experience another huge crash. I'm afraid that Obama's tepid approach to governing the economy has put the entire gov't at risk of Republican takeover.
get this straight: You're afraid that Obama's "tepid approach to governing the economy has put the entire gov't at risk of Republican takeover," but you're "wondering if (Republicans) have within them the ability to act in a way to save America if we were to experience another huge crash"?
IOW, you believe Obama has jeopardized the economy and are wondering if Republicans will save it.
Is that it?
I'm saying that in 2009 if Obama had gone full on FDR, even if it had been shot down, the people who didn't show up at the polls in 2010 might have because they would have known that this guy wasn't messing around trying to play footsie with the obstructionist Republicans.
He had a once in a century chance to do something big and he blew it by trying to be Mr. Bipartisan with a group who wanted nothing to do with being bipartisan.
The American people didn't have the time to waste on being "bipartisan"

...you believe low information voters would have flocked to the polls "if Obama had gone full on FDR, even if it had been shot down," and they would blame Republicans?
"He had a once in a century chance to do something big and he blew it by trying to be Mr. Bipartisan with a group who wanted nothing to do with being bipartisan. "
Big like passing health care reform after 100 years of attempts? Like adding 16 million to the Medicaid rolls? Like strenghtening Medicare and implementing free preventive care for seniors? Like enacting Wall Street reform, giving the FDIC more powers and establishing the CFPB? Like saving the auto industry (Romney is still trying to take credit for that) and preventing another Great Depression?
Or bigger?

(593 posts)Healthcare reform should have included a public option that he, Obama, shot down in closed door meetings with the healthcare industry while acting like he was for it in his public pronouncements.
Having said that, half a loaf is better than no loaf.
