Tuesday 3 January 2017 17.36 GMT
So far, Donald Trump has just three performances lined up for his 20 January inauguration: Jackie Evancho, a former Americas Got Talent contestant; the Mormon Tabernacle Choir; and the dance troupe the Rockettes. Its not been a smooth process either a choir member quit, and dissent within the Rockettes may lead to dancers boycotting the ceremony.
Meanwhile, British singer Rebecca Ferguson made waves when she said she would be happy to perform, but only if she could sing Strange Fruit. The song, recorded by Billie Holiday in 1939 and one of the most famous songs about racism, is not likely to get the green light. You, our readers, jumped into the comments section with tongue-in-cheek suggestions. Heres a selection:

Here comes the blind commissioner, they've got him in a trance

As Lady and I look out tonight, from Desolation Row
Does that not fit our current national nightmare nicely??

Look at that low playing! Fine, then.
Uh oh, overflow, population, common group
But it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself.
World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed,
Dummy, with the rapture and the rev-'rent and the right, right.
You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light
Feeling pretty psyched.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine."

(3,547 posts)"The Fool On The Hill"
Day after day, alone on the hill
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him
They can see that he's just a fool
And he never gives an answer
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around
Well on the way, head in a cloud
The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him
Or the sound he appears to make
And he never seems to notice
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around
And nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do
And he never shows his feelings
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around
He never listens to them
He knows that they're the fools
They don't like him
The fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around

(10,129 posts)Ha, ha, charade you are
You well heeled big wheel
Ha, ha, charade you are
And when your hand is on your heart
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying 'Keep on digging'
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find
Down in the pig mine?
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry
Bus stop rat bag
Ha, ha, charade you are
You fucked up old hag
Ha, ha, charade you are
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost worth a quick grin
You like the feel of steel
You're hot stuff with a hatpin
And good fun with a hand gun
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry
Hey you, White House
Ha, ha, charade you are
You house proud town mouse
Ha, ha, charade you are
You're trying to keep our feelings off the street
You're nearly a real treat
All tight lips and cold feet
And do you feel abused?
You got to stem the evil tide
And keep it all on the inside
Mary you're nearly a treat
Mary you're nearly a treat
But you're really a cry

(219 posts)I am not living here, I have got much left to fear
In a place of safety I am fortunate to be alive
With all these distinguished things around me, I am left to realize
It's not the blood in me, it's not the hate
It's just the simple things that I relish
Empire sews the seed of hate (We remove ourselves)
Passing flames inspires ugly traits (Sanitize)
Creepy ills to keep the fear in line
Is it wrong to let the liar lie
Creepy ills to keep the fears in line
More acquired is disease the souls state
I am a God, I am a faceless warrior
Lost leaders wins are glorious (Growing stocks of used up people)
Life is twisting all the words to shun (Life worthless than corporate rape)
Empire takes control of fate (I am dying, I am dying)
Is it wrong to call a spade a spade
Popping pills will ease the daily pain
Bombing peace back up into the stoned state
I am not living in here, I have got much left to fear
In a place of safety I am fortunate to be alive
With all these distinguished things around me, I am left to realize
It's not the blood in me, it's not the hate
It's just the simple things that I relish
I am a God, I am a faceless warrior
We remove ourselves from the war
Looking from a distance sanitized
Wash your hands and feel it
