GOP aims to rein in liberal cities

Source: The Hill

After consolidating power in Washington, D.C. and state capitals under President-elect Donald Trump, Republicans are moving to prevent large cities dominated by Democrats from enacting sweeping liberal agendas.

Republican state legislatures are planning so-called preemption laws, which prevent cities and counties from passing new measures governing everything from taxes to environmental regulations and social issues.

Republican legislators around the country say liberal cities and counties vastly overstepped their bounds by implementing new taxes on sodas and sugary beverages, by raising local minimum wages or through strict new environmental regulations.

“What we see is circumventing the process that’s in place,” said Linda Upmeyer, the Republican speaker of the Iowa state House. “I think we will likely look at language on preemption so that the state is making decisions where it ought to, and cities and counties are making decisions where they should.”

Democrats and city officials, however, see the preemption laws as a power grab aimed at limiting local governance in their party’s last bastions of political power — which have become ground zero in the fight to resist Trump.

These guys are so caught up in their illusion of power they are overstepping so far the results will become violent. If their inbred supporters don't realize what is happening and fast they will be the next ones to have everything attempted to be taken away.

They are insane.

Following an election where (*based on our current system/ EC) the voices of the "people" were ignored .... they think further stifling the will of the people is a good idea?

This should end well

... oh wait, they only scream about that when they want to enact racist laws, force Christianity on people and shut down Planned Parenthood clinics.

Lots of luck, assholes. Liberal states like CA are already gearing up to disregard their bullshit (e.g. Jerry Brown of CA has said they're not going to follow any requirements to target illegal immigrants), so get ready for a fight.

I thought it was all about local control? I recall a story about some "red state" clamping down on local control a while back too. Interesting how their base seems so quiet on something that they claim is so important to them.

We have a unfit, very possibly Manchurian candidate as PEOTUS with substantial ties to Russia. We have an obstructive House and Senate now firmly in control and enacting destructive social policies.
At what point does this power grab become too late? When they shut down DU?
When they track us down on social media accounts?
When they show up at our doors?
I'm not trying to be conspiratorial, but this shit is getting deep - fast.
