WikiLeaks Task Force Verified account
?@WLTaskForce

We are thinking of making an online database with all "verified" twitter accounts & their family/job/financial/housing relationships.

They're proposing building an AI database for the purpose of what? Doxxing people. Exposing their family, jobs, addresses, financial information... Creepy as fuck.

How very Big Brother meets McCarthyism.

How very authoritarian.

How very FASCIST.

Take a look at what it takes for an account to be verified:

https://support.twitter.com/articles/20174631#

This is for prominent people and organizations and Twitter requires a lot of not easily obtained information from them. This could be doxxing from hell on steroids for anyone who tweets an opinion that the thugs want to silence.

‘You guys are a f*ckin’ joke’: The internet rips WikiLeaks for whining about leaked report on Russia

WikiLeaks battled with online critics after attacking U.S. officials for issuing portions of a report on Russian hacking before Donald Trump’s intelligence briefing.

The hacktivist group, which posted the emails and other data that U.S. officials believe were obtained at the direction of senior Russian officials, objected to the release of information contained in a U.S. intelligence report about the stolen documents.

The intelligence assessment, which was presented Thursday to President Barack Obama, found that Russian officials fed the material hacked from the Democratic National Committee through third parties to WikiLeaks at the direction of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The same assessment will be presented Friday to Trump, who is scheduled to be inaugurated in two weeks.

For example: if someone with some savvy connected all of my social media accounts and Google, they could likely piece together a lot of information about me, just from what is public, or what I left in comments here and there. They could also trawl Google. They'd build an smart electronic robot.

What's worrisome is that they'd put it all out there in a database on their site. And how many stalkers, exes, home-invaders, politicians would use that data?

Also -- have you tried the steps described on Twitter's "Deactivating your account" page? I know next to nothing about Twitter, but this looks like it should work. I hope that's helpful.

I don't use my real identity online, although I am not a celebrity or even slightly well known -- so I have a luxury that government officials and public figures don't have.

Despite taking precautions, though, it would be all too easy for anyone to be -- for example -- tagged in a Facebook photo and then for their face to be linked to, say, a photo from a protest march, or a pic from a work-related or charity event, etc. And once a malefactor can determine your identity, they can find out all kinds of stuff about you via easily accessed public records. For example, if you're a home owner, your home address is a matter of public record in most places, and it's not hard to determine or at least deduce a lot about your financial status from property tax records, etc.

Even though it's not possible to achieve 100% privacy, I'm as careful about it as I can be, despite the low risk that I could piss off anybody who'd want to come after me (YET!).

The modern world can be a dangerous place, and in this neofascist moment we all have to be a lot more careful than we're accustomed to. At the same time, this moment demands that we take a stand and oppose the new regime where feasible, so it's a balancing act. We all have to think hard about juggling what's best for society and for the personal safety of ourselves and our families.

Timothy Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, compared the WikiLeaks proposal to a piece of British legislation that has been criticized as a massive boon to the surveillance industry.

“Don’t.even.think.about.it,” he tweeted.

Even the “hacktivist” organization Anonymous lined up against WikiLeaks.

“This is a sickening display of intimidation tactics,” it said, tagging the official Twitter accounts for the social network, its support team and chief executive Jack Dorsey.
