(18,821 posts)Airlines routinely let passengers travel with unloaded guns in their checked baggage - and leave it up to customers to know and obey gun laws when they land.
The TSA has a basic set of rules, and individual airlines add to them.
Delta - the airline used by the shooter who pulled a firearm from his checked baggage and killed five people after landing at Ft. Lauderdale airport Friday - says on its website that all firearms must be declared at "the main ticketing counter" before traveling on a Delta flight.
The firearm must be unloaded, per TSA regulations, and the owner must sign a "Firearms Unloaded" declaration, the airline says.

(1,429 posts)He should never have been anywhere NEAR a gun, let alone a gun on a flight that he could simply take out of his checked luggage, go into the loo, load it and go on a killing spree in a airport.
It's madness!!!

I still oppose the lack of due process of such lists, but this and Charleston both had cause for action yet the tools in place were not used.
