The source is a Russian Official but in the area I live in I can believe that Republicans hate Democrats and Obama so much they would support Putin over a Democrat..

(4,229 posts)This is the culmination of the GOP strategy against dems since really the Reagan era.
To not really compete with dems on issues, but to paint the other guy as actually a bad person. This was really perfected by the Bush family, so one consolation of the Trump win, for me was to see Jeb Bush be killed by his own family's creation.
GOP voters now consider dems so toxic that they are admire an autocratic dictator, pretty much elected the closest thing they could here, and GOP legislators and lawmakers are feeling free to bend the rules in both fair and unfair ways to make sure they maintain control.
I'm not really sure how we dial it back. You go into every doctors office, or public place and they have fox on. Truck drivers, traveling salesmen or anyone who drives a vehicle for long distances is exposed to a LOT of talk radio.
The only time dems have an opening is when the GOP REALLY screws up like the economy under Bush, and once the economy gets better they return their team to power.
It's really worrisome to me. I'm worried we could be going down the tubes as a country because half the electorate no longer applies critical thinking to politics.

(10,173 posts)I'm just tired of the denial about racism these days, so I get flippant. The smear against Obama affected goodwill towards him, and the smear is rooted in race: "Muslim terrorist", "Kenyan", "not really American".
Gosh yes.

(6,994 posts)grand kids the other day I said " One would think after the Civil Rights act of 1965,this racism, bigotry would all be behind us"
one replied to me (a High School Senior) "its still here,we see it every day"
This is too bad...But you know when I was in the Military in Jakcsonville Fla. in 1969 a group of us went into a restaurant where our African American Friend was refused service and we all walked out in disbelief....
So here we have a Black man that saved us from a the Great Depression of 2008/2009 and Republicans still seek revenge with the help of the Russians.
