They could stop sending us cheap, inferior consumer products, but I'm not sure I'd call it revenge.

If they are willing to take a multi-trillion dollar hit (not only losses on their T-bills, but their own economic problems will accelerate when the US economy craters from the trade war).

Mutually self destructive policy

China has the added concerns of a Peoples revolution. Look what happened when their economy slowed to single digit growth. The worker class revolted at layoffs

Now consider a full on negative growth depression in China.

and the emerging new clients in Europe and the middle east.

They have already secured new sources of oil and essential minerals in Africa and the Middle East.

Additionally their currency is tossed into upheaval along with massive unemployment

I'm not on the GOP's side on this one. It's just something China's leadership would have to avoid in order to stay in power.
