...once in concert back in the '80s and a second time when she sang at a Capitol Hill event honoring Ginetta Sagan (see link for bio). Baez's voice is one for the ages.

he's a very measured man and not given to boasting about anything ever, but he's always said he met her at some summer camp, in upstate new york i think. when she was 15 and calling herself joannie and pronounced her last name "baze". my father would have been 20 then. she had a guitar and basically knew how to strum but dad taught her some basic chords.

naturally my father never thought she'd eventually become famous so didn't get any autograph or anything like that, so i have no proof.

knowing the chords is one thing. plenty of people know the chords.

knowing what to do with them is another thing entirely.

and allowed us all in the audience to snap photos prior to starting her concert.




She was quite approachable during the cruise. Came to a couple of cocktail parties. My husband grew up in Palo Alto (he's
two years younger than she is) so he had a conversation with her about "home".
