Poison pills
On Cspan2, one Democratic senator after another rises to plead against repealing the Affordable Care Act and defunding Planned Parenthood. They are relating stories of lives saved, telling of constituents whose families are whole as a result of the ACA, children who will live in spite of birth defects, parents who will live even though they came to the ACA with pre-existing conditions, women whose cancer was discovered in time at a Planned Parenthood clinic. The stories are compelling because they are true, but the only Republican in the room is the one presiding over the session. By their absence, Republicans are justifying once again our lack of confidence in their ability to give a damn.
Their singular ambition remains: To remove any trace of positive legacy from Obama's historic presidency, consequences for Americans be damned.
