Breaking News: Schumer opposes Sessions for AG

Washington (CNN)Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Thursday that he will vote against Sen. Jeff Sessions' nomination for attorney general.

"After reviewing his record and giving careful consideration to his answers during the hearing, I am not confident in Senator Sessions' ability to be a defender of the rights of all Americans, or to serve as an independent check on the incoming administration," the New York Democrat said in a statement. "I am also deeply concerned by his views on immigration, which I saw firsthand during the push for comprehensive immigration reform. For those reasons, I will oppose his nomination to serve as the next attorney general."

Developing story - more to come

Reid ended that for cabinet appointees and others who are not Supreme Court nominees. Sessions just needs 50 votes plus Pence.

Answer to my own question - he can and he may, but we don't know. John Kerry was Senator when nominated to be Secretary of State. He only voted "present".

Dear Senator Schumer,

If today's news reports are correct, you will be voting AGAINST confirmed Sessions for Attorney General. I APPLAUD your decision, Senator. Sessions has no business as the highest attorney in the land. His racist past and current leanings are anathema to the United States and what we as a country stand for. Thank you.

Further, Sir, please make EVERY ATTEMPT to hinder the confirmations of the equally nefarious other Trump Cabinet choices.

In addition, Sir, I respectfully request that investigation be initiated as soon as possible into FBI Director James Comey's apparent violation of The Hatch Act, in effect, throwing the election to Donald Trump.

And finally, I believe with all my heart and soul that Donald J. Trump is a Russian Intelligence Asset and holds his allegiance NOT to the United States, but to Vladimir Putin and Russia.

Very best,
Raster.

Something was very wrong (as was this years election) and it was just too damn easy for Republicans take back the Senate..
Even in 2012 when the Republicans won the House by an overwhelming majority....
But then we must consider who the DNC Chairperson was during those take overs.

Democrats want to keep the same people we have had for 20+ years..and you know we can go out there every election and work our ass off and when something goes terribly wrong like this year the Democratic leadership will sit on their hands and do nothing and declare this wont happen again but aw, it will happen again in 2018 and 2020..

I expect nothing less given the prospective appointee, current political and governance realities, and past history of GOP getting what it wants by playing hard ball, oppressing/suppressing, cheating, and stealing. Any elected Democrat who does not do WHAT IS RIGHT at this juncture, any elected Democrat who pussy foots in the face of the current threat to democracy, absolutely needs to be primaried.
