They got him to the hospital and did a CT scan. He broke his L4 but doesnt need surgery. Sounds like 6-12 weeks of bedrest. So not as bad as i was fearing.
thanks all for the good thoughts.
My mom just got a text from my sister saying that Dan was snowmobiling in Vail and crashed and its possible he broke his back.
A rescue copter is trying to get to him but its taking a few hours to make it happen.
We wont know how bad it is till they can get him to the hospital.
After losing my little brother and having to put my kitty to sleep, 2016 seems like its not ready to give up and go away just yet

(70,090 posts)my brother broke his neck when he was almost 60. helicoptered out, and within the day they had stabilized the his neck, and had him up walking around. they assured him that most people his age would not have been so lucky.
he was in a collar for 2 months, but made a complete recovery. his bike not so much, but...
have had several examples in my life lately of how being in bad shape, or being very overweight, can turn a simple spill into broken bones that will have a heck of a time healing carrying a lot of weight on lax muscles.
be hopeful.

My little brother did the "I'm young and strong!" thing after several motorcycle accidents (more damage than I ever suffered in my youthful misadventures) and now, in his fifties, some days he moves like an old man.
I'm pretty sure some of my hip problems are the consequence of a car accident I was in. It hurt like hell at the time, I had some very ugly bruises from the seat belt and such, but nope, I didn't "need" a doctor.
It's possible I wouldn't be the grumpy creature I am today if I'd taken better care of myself as an invincible young adult.
