This reporter seems to have missed the hyper-partisan actions that the new Congress is passing every single day! Maybe it took John Lewis' statement and The Donald's crass tweets to bring anything to the attention of dense reporters and the oblivious public - but since November 8 and especially since the new Congress began their session, hyper-partisanship has been the rule of the day.

A public feud between Donald Trump and Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) seemed to jettison any lingering hopes that the inauguration would temporarily ease partisanship in Washington and instead threatened to widen the rift between the two parties.
Lewiss assertion that Trump is not a legitimate president and his announcement that he would skip Fridays inaugural ceremony prompted the president-elect to sharply criticize the civil rights leader Saturday morning.
Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results, Trump wrote in two tweets. All talk, talk, talk no action or results. Sad!
Late Saturday evening, Trump continued to hammer Lewis in a third tweet. Congressman John Lewis should finally focus on the burning and crime infested inner-cities of the U.S. I can use all the help I can get! Trump wrote.

(92,190 posts)it came from the republicans, not the Democrats.
What President Obama went through the last eight years was a disgrace. The republican strategy was obstruction.
Now we hear voices from the media, and even some within the party, that we "need to be the adults in the room"
Where were these people the last eight years when we "were the adults in the room"? As far as the republicans were concerned they would NEVER compromise. That should have been apparent after the fist two years of President Obama's term as President.
The media went out of their way to falsely characterize it as "both sides were at fault".
When you are dealing with one side that literally wants to destroy the other side, the time for compromise is over.
While the phrase "when they go low, we go high", has a beautiful resonance, when they are trying to destroy you, you have to fight in order to survive.
This may be an offensive analogy, but during World War II, "going high", when Hitler was killing so many people would never have stopped the killing.

(34,136 posts)To them winning is far more important than the good of the country or the good of other Americans. I believe that has been true since Nixon was caught out in his crimes. If Ford had not pardoned Nixon and there had been a trial detailing the crimes committed by the Nixon White House, his aides who abetted him would have been outted and sent to prison along with their boss.
Considering what those abettors have done in the last four decades the country would have been on a completely different trajectory. Which, of course, is WHY Ford pardoned Nixon. If he had not the Republican brand would have been forever smeared.
And since the Nixon resignation the Republicans have been after revenge with no care for what their vindictiveness does to the country. Over the last couple of decades they have forgotten their original excuse for their hate of Democrats and their hate has become unreasoning and increasingly destructive. Republicans now will be happy only with the total annihilation of the Democratic Party - to hell with what the consequences to the country and the world.
On the other hand Democrats keep trying to concentrate on what is best for this country with the delusion that Republicans still have the same goal.
I am very afraid for our country.

(36,464 posts)The Party should use this as an opportunity to point out the scope of voter disenfranchisement - which the media is ignoring, as they claim that Don the Con's win is legitimate. I'm not holding my breath though. The dems didn't fight in 2000 or in 2004 - why would they fight now? This is even more nebulous. By Monday afternoon this little spark will be extinguished.
Don the Con is about to become president & the GOP will take a wreaking ball to everything good & fine left in this country.
I love the scaffolding on the Obamacare building. And the rake.

(653 posts)All this crap that the r's think is going to happen now
They could done and have helped the country for 8 years
I don't think their side is going to get clue
When bushy did nothing and looked like a little lost angry child during 9-11. His people thought he was a great leader. He sucked pond water did nothing and his people didn't see him as loser. Don't have any hope that they will see thru this piece of garbage!
You follow the idiots on Wall Street they think this is the second coming
They don't have a problem that their side could have worked with the dems and done the infrastructure upgrades 8 years ago.
I don't think the rosy outcome they think will with the Cheeto in charge now is going to change the world now.
Maybe except as a distraction as they rip the last remaining money for themselves
