Washington (CNN) More than two dozen Democratic lawmakers are boycotting President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, particularly after revelations of Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 election and his rebuke of civil rights icon John Lewis on Saturday. No senators have said they are boycotting.

(31,391 posts)So far, it seems the boycott is centered in the House. Three days left to see what Senators decide.

Democrats who serve in the legislature's upper chamber are not breaking with tradition, despite their differences with Trump.
...Newly elected California Sen. Kamala Harris told the Los Angeles Times she was going.

(53,339 posts)They didn't call it a boycott, and when CBS reported she was boycotting, the story was quickly pulled--probably after hearing from her office.
If the Times is correct and she's going, that's a change from her original plans.

(4,483 posts)who said we shouldn't talk about boycotting the inauguration; we just shouldn't turn up. Announcing a boycott of an event is paying more attention to the event, which is the opposite of what we want. Boycotting an enterprise to try to convince them to do something different is one thing; there's a goal which benefits us. Boycotting the inauguration benefits us, too, in further humiliating our Asshole-in-Chief, but announcing that we will boycott only gives him the opportunity to tweet. Plus, what's more embarrassing than throwing a party expecting a crowd, and nobody shows up? Without sending regrets ahead of time?

(4,483 posts)to my Democratic senator urging him not to attend the inauguration, and not to announce that he's not going; just don't show up.
We'll see.
I think not announcing a boycott of the inauguration gives an out to those senators and representatives who may not be brave enough to call attention to their resistance to the new president. The most pusillanimous among us can always come up with an excuse after the fact to explain why we weren't there.
