(92,190 posts)the same media who lied to us about the WMDs in Iraq, and swayed public opinion based on that lie.

(4,483 posts)They reported what Colin Powell, among others, reported. But the media also covered the multiple congressional investigatory trips to Iraq which found no evidence of WMDs, as well as Hans Blix's reports. News contrary to the Bush line about WMDs was easy to find and prolific.

Knight Ridder was one of the few that actually reported the facts:
"How easy or difficult was it, in your view, for the average interested citizen back in 2002 to find out what was going on in Iraq?
Very difficult. But not so much to find out what was going on in Iraq. It was very difficult for the average reader, or TV viewer or internet browser to find out the truth about Saddams connection with Al Qaeda and international terrorism, about the real state of his nuclear weapons program, and to find out about the real honest assessment of his weapons of mass destruction program."

but their voice was not heard because the other outlets were pushing the double speak

(4,483 posts)for me, a middle-class housewife in the suburbs, to know that multiple expeditions to Iraq by multiple agencies had found no reason to believe Iraq had WMDs, and if I knew it, why didn't Hillary Clinton and Colin Powell know it? I don't read Mother Jones; I do read the Philadelphia Inquirer. I listen to news on NPR, and at that time I didn't watch news on TV. I was, I think, an average, middle-of-the-road consumer of normal news, and I knew it.

(92,190 posts)was a part.
What Hillary acknowledged as a mistake, was that Bush appealed to Congress that the IWR vote would allow that administration to use leverage in order to finish the inspections, because the threat of force in the resolution would persuade Hussein into readmitting U.N. inspectors, so they could continue their mission of verifying whether or not he had destroyed his chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons sites.
The problem was that bush went back on his word, and invaded before giving the inspectors enough time.
There was a tremendous amount of MISINFORMATION going on at that time, and if you looked at the links I provided it demonstrated that. The New York Times apologized for their inept reporting:
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/26/world/from-the-editors-the-times-and-iraq.html?_r=0
While there were some news sources, such as Knight Rider, and others who got it right, the majority the U.S. news outlets were primarily echos of white house propaganda.

(3,847 posts)fires their highest rated show with Phil Donahue who was telling the truth about the mounds of bullshit being thrown around.
He was contradicting his own network with facts, so they fired him.
The networks were so afraid of being against W., cause you were either 'with him or against him'. The "news" casts bent over to make themselves look 'patriotic', they were afraid.

(141 posts)that someone should make a tRump supporter registry. Voting for the biggest idiot you can find just because "fuck them libtards sjws crybabies" and then saying that you regret it is not enough. These people need to be reminded of their stupidity as long as the orange man is in office.
