She and I were co-workers for over twenty years in what is a Helping related profession, were in a small group of friends outside of work. We didnt discuss politics over that time, but I assumed that we were all on the same page because of the nature of our work. She *did* have a streak of pointedness towards others and we had a couple of breaks in our interactions over that time. Once she asked me, Have you ever thought that Hitler was right?!1 I was shocked, but there was no discussion as to what she meant by that and we all brushed it off as part of her eccentric drama. She also quoted from the New Testament, mostly from Paul/Acts, occasionally but not often enough to think she was a Fundie, and the quotes were about women being subservient to the spouse, which, since she was an independent single mother, seemed to be incongruent, but which also took away from considering her a Fundie.
We didnt have contact during our first ten years of retirement, and when we ran into each other and began a little socializing again, I was shocked that she was a Faux News fanatic, parrot, vehement, vicious. I soon said we had to have a pact if we were to continue, NO politics. We have generally abided by this, although a new tenseness was evident. In all our near 30 years, the two people she referred to with invariable admiration were her father and her brother.
So we had a flare-up of politics before the Election and e-mail contact has gone silent. Until this morning when she Forwarded to me her e-mail exchange with her beloved brother. My Reply below is couched in religious terms (Im a Secular Humanist, if anything) to poke at her Pharisaical cover.
