"I voted for Trump, not against Planned Parenthood"

http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2017/01/17/planned-parenthood-trump-gop-abortion-column/96618992/

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why we can't have nice things.

I voted for Donald Trump because I wanted to see change in our country. One change I didn’t want to see was access to health care at Planned Parenthood blocked.

But Republican congressional leaders have already promised to do just that, with a provision to stop reimbursements for the health care Planned Parenthood provides.

Just like one in 5 women across the country, I went to Planned Parenthood here in Arizona in my 20s for health care. I was newly divorced, unemployed and uninsured, and I needed health services I could not otherwise afford.

These are services every woman needs at some point, and they are at risk. Vice President-elect Mike Pence and anti-women’s health members of Congress are pledging to attack Planned Parenthood and block patients from essential care, as they have threatened to do as many times as they could in last 10 years. The difference this time is that they think President-elect Trump, as a Republican, will sign the bill.

Let's give her credit. Though, if you ever picked up a newspaper in the last decade, you know the Republicans lied, cheated, were even indicted for making up tapes, regarding PP. Nonetheless, welcome to the real world. Now, stay awake.

I heard him say as much early on when he seemed the most reasonable on those issues of any of the Repubs in primary, helping him win primary and than the general election, as many Trump voters seem to have tuned out after Repub primary when he shifted his policies to align closer with the fundies and hard right-wingers.

Not fund PP. That's when he had the 17 on stage, and before he became the alt right darling. At that point, he was still taking positions to distinguish himself from the herd. ..not that he had any real policies or commitments...just to make himself stand out. He later contradicted himself, of course, even saying women should be punished for abortion.
What about men like him, who, the odds are, have impregnated many women.
I wonder how many abortions he has caused, without remorse. He probably thinks if he paid $ for it, he was the big cheeto.

"get rid of the abortion part."

During the primaries, he told Chris Mathews that women should be punished for abortion. He was consistent, all the way through the primaries that he was against women's right to choose. He was not consistent in his stance on PP, which changed from not defunding but somehow making abortion go away, to defunding.

Trump only agreed to marry Marla Maples after he failed to convince her to get an abortion and Tiffany was born (and probably DNA tested, I would guess).

statements on the issue and Trump said he had "educated himself" since then and was now anti-choice. He even famously told Chris Mathews, "You have to punish the woman" who has an abortion along with the MD. That was during the primaries.

He did, however, say very early on that PP was a great place and he was just going to get rid of the "abortion part." Because as everyone knows, Mr. Trump thinks that being the president means he gets to decide everything about everything and everybody has to do exactly what he says just like a board meeting at Trump Tower.

Donald Trump made explicit campaign promises to defund Planned Parenthood, as in this campaign letter:

I am committed to:
 Nominating pro-life justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.
 Signing into law the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would end painful
late-term abortions nationwide.
 Defunding Planned Parenthood as long as they continue to perform abortions, and re-
allocating their funding to community health centers that provide comprehensive health care
for women.
 Making the Hyde Amendment permanent law to protect taxpayers from having to pay for
abortions.

https://www.sba-list.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Trump-Letter-on-ProLife-Coalition.pdf

He said it in the CNN-Telemundo primary debate in Texas:

But I would defund it, because I'm pro-life.
http://www.ontheissues.org/2016/Donald_Trump_Abortion.htm

And NBC reported on it after during the general election:

Though Trump has praised the women's health provider, he has also said the government should stop providing it with federal funds for contraception and testing for sexually transmitted infections, because many Planned Parenthood affiliates provide abortion.
http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/2016-presidential-debates/abortion-trump-clinton-let-it-all-hang-out-n669586

These are just a few examples. Even if she didn't catch this, or believe it was his real position, by extrapolation she should have known that a Republican Congress have been strongly committed to this defunding, for many years.

When you vote for someone who has a clear stated position on something, you are voting for their position on that.

Even in cases where their position is vague or unclear, when you vote for them you are voting for what they'll do.

For those of you who don't watch it, Tosh.0 features comedian Daniel Tosh standing in front of a green screen, introducing oddball videos from the internet and making funny comments.

Anyway, every now and then, he has a little feature called "What Did You Think Was Going to Happen?" The first video in this line featured some ocean fishermen who had reeled in a small shark and were displaying it for the camera. One of the guys holding the shark was sticking his finger in the shark's mouth when it suddenly bit him. He dropped the shark, swore a bleep streak, and the shark wiggled back overboard into the sea, a clean getaway. The guy wound up with a nasty looking gash across his finger. What did you think was going to happen when you stuck your finger in the shark's mouth?

What did you think was going to happen when you voted for Donald Trump while he was promising to shut down Planned Parenthood and deprive it of funding? "But her emails!"

Please pay attention next time.

OK, that is false. But it is about attacking and destroying leftist institutions.

Universities will have every ethnic studies and social justice curriculum defunded. The right believes that those fields are worthless and just creates employment for troublemakers.

Public sector unions might be outlawed. Except for police, firefighters and prison guards.

Tenure period might be outlawed.

The white whale for the right is the big endowments, Ford, Rockefeller etc. Getting rid of these outfits would make the left unable to fund activists.

Dark days ahead.

If she voted for Trump, then she voted against Planned Parenthood.

If that is too subtle for some Trump voters, when they (or some friend, relative, loved one) find out they have cervical or uterine cancer only after it's stage 4 because the PP in their area had to close, maybe it will dawn upon them at the hospice.

I have a hard time swallowing regrets from someone who says they stuck their hand into a fire and were surprised at the heat.
