ANTI-INAUGURATION TV: If you have Cable/Smart TV, turn them ON--just NOT to Inauguration coverage!

.

Having a Network Addressable Unit, or a Smart Television, you need to turn it ON to count against Trump.

By having your television off, you are not counted in the collective tallies, but on changes the ratio of viewership.

Remember: Many new cable TV boxes and DVRs record at least two prior networks so you can flip between them and catch up on what was missed. You need to make sure that ALL of the channels that are being recorded by your DVR ARE NOT handling the Inauguration coverage.

That is primarily true, but that is to support over-the-air viewership, an outdated model. TheBlackAdder Jan 2017 #5

I have a Neilson box and live in a red state. I will turn on my tv to anything but live news today. I have often wondered how my home got selected. Maybe because our political views are so different for this area? I hope so.

I would've preferred the box!

I mostly watched science programs and PBS. Nielsen never contacted me again.

Although, I had satellite at the time. My booklet still contained a lot of PBS and BBC America. And, "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" was still on at the time. I made sure to write that down.

I got another survey from Nielsen last year, but it wasn't anywhere near detailed as that booklet.

This is the third such post, and they're all wrong. Ratings are NOT determined by the number of TVs on or what channel they're set to. Ratings are determined (by Nielsen) based on monitoring and surveying a select and representative panel of viewers. YOU are not on the panel. What you watch is irrelevant.

Digital television provides direct feeds to cable companies, as of around 2014.

Sites now collect real data from TV and internet browser activity. That is why the real numbers come in days later.
