The insurance model for health care was always going to become untenable. Automobile insurance works because car accidents are truly accidental random events. Sharing the risk is a sound strategy. So many health care costs, on the other hand, are quite predictable and with advances in medical science and data processing, are becoming more and more predictable every day.
Clearly, the best strategy for making money selling health care coverage is to identify the people who might need it and never sell it to them.
