(34,648 posts)I'd rather have Jefferson as my Massa than Massa Trump. Trump seems the type to pull the wings off of butterflies just to watch them die.

He has stepped up and proved me wrong. He actually does have a soul.

(21,088 posts)Barbara was a top-drawer investigative journalist for CBC, and I first met her at a seminar with Seymour Hersh following his exposure of My Lai. I was stunned when her son David joined the dark side. I'm quite happy to see him redeeming himself - maybe now his mother can stop rolling in her grave.

(5,932 posts)It's a distinction I'm always careful to make in my own speech, though I've never insisted that others do.
It is absolutely impossible for one human being to own another. There has never been a "slave owner", and never could be. I refuse to confer even a whisper of legitimacy onto the concept of ownership by using the term "slave owner".
It is all too possible, though, for one human being to hold another in bondage or captivity, and so I always use the term "slaveholder" instead.
