True Dough
(17,304 posts)We're not there yet, but we have some deplorabilism simmering right now. While Justin Trudeau (True Dough, you see?) is our Liberal Prime Minister right now, he ushered out a Conservative Prime Minister in Stephen Harper who served for well over 9 years. He was getting desperate in his final bid for another term, using his own dog whistle politics by praising "old stock Canadians" and getting even more brazen by promoting the idea of a Barbaric Cultural Practices hotline, which many felt was aimed at Muslims. Fortunately that helped to get Harper turfed from office.
But we now have a Conservative leadership race underway in Harper's absence. Two of the leading candidates are Kellie Leitch and Kevin O'Leary. You'll possibly recognize the latter name from Shark Tank. "Mr. Wonderful" he calls himself. Both he and Leitch are deplorable. I sincerely hope they split the far right vote and one of the other moderate candidates assumes leadership of the Conservative party. The thought O'Leary or Leitch occupying 24 Sussex Drive in 3 years is stomach churning.
