We are just going to sing and dance and make our voices heard here," rally and march co-chairwoman Ann Scholhmer told the crowd at Jackson and Columbus drives just before 11 a.m.
BRAVO CHICAGO! Way to turn out!
Makes me want to quote Carl Sandburg ... but I'll beg your pardon to change a word or two in light of the today's march:
Under the terrible burden of destiny laughing as a young woman laughs,
Laughing even as an ignorant fighter laughs who has never lost a battle,
Bragging and laughing that under her wrist is the pulse, and under her ribs the heart of the people,
Laughing!

(10,018 posts)Thousands and thousands of us marched down Jackson as planned. Perhaps not the best organized Rally (hard to hear the speakers for some, Jumbotrons cutting out, subtitles run too far below eye level, confusion about marching or not, etc.) but the weather was great, the speakers were extremely inclusive, and the attendees were active and respectful. A pretty damn fun day. I know I am not alone now.

(18,402 posts)We walked for about an hour and fifteen minutes and then sort of dropped out (husband had surgery on his toe the other day!). For some odd reason, at least four people stopped to take our picture. The whole thing was fun and beautiful.
