Trump strategy is to cast doubt on the press tells me all kinds of shit is going to hit the fan

down the pike. I don't see why they would think it's a good strategy otherwise. His approval is going to be stuck in the upper 30's with the continual confrontational approach. This administration is off to the worst start perhaps in American history.

lying to the media?
misogyny?
racism?
xenophobia?
tax cuts for the rich?
help for business at the expense of employees?
cutting social security, medicare, medicaid?

none of this is new. we've seen it all before.

the *only* thing that's different is that he's inartful and tactless about it.
just a bit too obvious.

and *that* is the only thing that has ever really worried the rest of the republican leadership.

Does Trump really need to solidify his 30% base?

Historically, the President's approval rating drops 10-15% after the honeymoon period ends (~90-120 days). I predict Trump's honeymoon period is going to be much shorter than normal, and his approval drop is likely to be much larger than 10-15%.

I overheard a group of ladies at lunch today talking about Trump's and SpiceRack's rants. One of them admitted she decided to vote for Trump because of the Comey letter, but now wishes she hadn't.

As my daddy used to say "the stink is starting to come off the turd".

No matter what comes out, he can deny and say they are fabricating evidence. His fan club will believe everything he says.

Well we had the Soviets for a long time. He could go after the Dems but that invites a response and he loses airtime in that. ISIS? That's asking for low approval because that isn't going to be solved quickly. ISIS is and always will be a waiting game with some aggression. Eventually they will be almost nothing like the Taliban and al Qaeda. ISIS does have lots of funding so they will be around for a long time.

The press, gives him constant coverage. Airtime was his key in the election. He knows the press won't bite back because they are petrified of being seen as biased - the real press.

He has three real problems facing him -aside from the normal
Credibility
Smaller inner circle and staff than even W. They wither in time. W recycled Condi everywhere he could. This is probably Bannon's long game-getting his people in there. Also, remaking news to expand his influence
Congress - Robert Reuben hit on this this week. The Repubs hate him and love Pence. They get what they can out of him - literal carnage - and then turn on him for the slightest mistake.
