(4,835 posts)The problem arises when the dude who is being kept from putting a plastic building in his back yard because he belongs to a homeowners association, or the lady that can't have chickens in her yard because of a city ordinance, or the guy who has the county sanitarian on his ass because he's discharging his sewage to the creek...
When these 'regular Americans' find out that these small entities aren't gonna get off their back because they voted for Trump, what's gonna happen is the EPA is gonna allow more mercury in their drinking water, they're gonna allow the coal companies to poison their well with obscene amounts of sulfur, or fracking is going to make the water in their well complete disappear. That's the deregulation that they'll see.
This is the disconnect that exists, now it's up to us to point out what they've done to themselves and the rest of us.

People think deregulation means they don't have to license their dog, what it really means is that banks can raise your interest rates as much as they want.
The idea of smaller government only applies to less enforcement of regulations of big business, not how much the government can intrude on people's private lives.
America is about to get an education in GOP politics they never expected.
