Here's how the Trump administration is impacting global health
Today, Trump signed an executive order that reinstates a policy that prohibits organizations overseas from receiving any U.S. funding if they provide services, referrals, or even information related to abortions. The last time this was enacted was in 2001 - the graph shows the abortion rate for sub-Saharan African women before and after 2001. The sample reflects 49% of all child-bearing women from that region (that's a BIG study).
Every organization receiving U.S. aid funds already couldn't use U.S. money on abortions. As of now, they can't get funding EVEN IF they use any other funds (their own funds, other donors funds, etc.) to support those services. They also can't get funding EVEN IF abortion is legal in their country (as it is, by the way, in the U.S.). The last time this happened, under George Bush, a well-respected, peer-reviewed study by Stanford University found that abortions in sub-Saharan Africa significantly INCREASED because women had less access to contraception and were therefore forced to seek abortions often unsafe ones to prevent unwanted births.
If the goal is to stop abortions, then fund health care for women!
