Want to keep up with the good shows on MSNBC? Joy? Rachel? Chris? but don't want to shell out the cable tier that gets them.. read on, the best kept secret in streaming is your solution.
Playstation Vue. Originally just running PS4, now is avaiable as an app on Amazon FireTV, Roku, AppleTV and PHONES. Their access slim package for 29/mo.. NO CONTRACTS has MSNBC and 55-60 additional LIVE channels (AMC, Animal Planet, BBC America, Bravo, Cartoon Network, CNN, Discovery, Disney, Food Network, Cooking Channel, FX FXX,SyFy TBS, TNT and more) LIVE with both a cloud DVR for any show you want to record AND Catchup features going a few days back. Add to that your local channels (in some areas) and the network catch up functions for NBC, ABC, FOX (CBS is in the works).
29.99/mo, NO CONTRACT, only needs and internet connection and a supported device.
PLUS you can have ACTIVE streaming (of different channels) on up to FIVE Devices at once.
"But I don't wanna buy an FireTV/Roku/AppleTV!" Well, got a phone? That's right you can get the full thing on your Android Phone/Tablet, IOS/Ipad.A FEW channels are 'mobile restricted', that the channels decision not PSVue.
AND... PS VUE counts as a 'cable network', so many of those places that want you to have a cable subscription to get to their streaming/catchup... just put in PS VUE as the cable company and you're good to go.
I killed my cable/dish sub about 9 months ago and NEVER looked back. Rachel in my pocket makes things tolerable when out and about
CHECK IT OUT, 7 day free trial.

(6,496 posts)... and the general tech opinion is that it sucks. Two devices max. Can't compare. SLink TV is good too but no MSNBC (last time I looked) and more restrictions.

(479 posts)all we need although we use Hulu Plus as well with ours.
The Direct TVNow has MSNBC, CNN, EuroNews, Newsy, ESPN channels, can HBO for another $5 a month. Also, which is great for my wife & I, we get Turner Classic Movies. Several other channels too.
No Contract. We stream it on our Amazon Fire, supposed to be on Roku next month.

(47,596 posts)I have cable, but I don't watch MSNBC.
I read the news. I don't watch it.
Cable is for fiction and sports.

(12,164 posts)It's no good to me anyway as my only internet option is satellite with strict data caps >$50.00 a month for 10GBTS.

(10,303 posts)It's effectively Dish Network on-line, excluding certain channels where they couldn't negotiate an Internet carriage deal. No contracts. No MSNBC @ the $20/mo - but you get CNN and *NO* Fixed News. You can add on the 'News Pack' to the $20/month to get MSNBC, HLN, Bloomberg, BBC World News, EuroNews, France24, NDTV 24/7 (India), CGTN (formerly CCTV News - China) - and a few others, (yeah, RT, The Blaze too if you want that kind of stuff).
Note: You have to choose a "base" pack - Sling Orange (which gets you ESPN and Disney) or Sling Blue (Fox Sports Nets and FX). Sling Orange allows you to stream to 1 screen at a time. Sling Blue is $5 more a month at $25, but you can stream to up to 3 screens at a time. We're not a sports household. My wife is a CNN junkie. I'm a British ex-pat. So Sling Blue + Newspack for $30/month for me. But if you're up for 1 screen, Sling Orange + Newspack - $25/month for your news channels and no WTFox News in the lineup.
They have 7 day free trial too.

(479 posts)set up. We are still paying for plans but a lot less than cable & we are now just watching what we want to watch.
People need to just set up their viewing options for how they want it & for how much they want to pay.
We get a lot of shows from Amazon Prime & with Prime the shows & music are free
We also use Netflix for what we want & we use Hulu for most of our TV shows. We like Hulu because we just wait a day & we can watch them without commercials. For example, we love "This is Us", NCIS, etc.
And for my sports, we signed up for the new DirectTVNow App Streaming so I have my ESPN. They also, of course, have EuroNews, ALJ, CNN & MSNBC but we don't care for cable news like most but I do enjoy Newsy & EuroNews.
We have finally now got to where we can watch what we want when we want & we are only paying for what we want.
Another option you can do is Kodi where you can get movies & tv programs, no charge under many circumstances. Hard to explain how Kodi works but either check with a tech friend or look into it. Another really good option. All we did was get the box from Amazon & set it up.

(5,644 posts)But I am stuck on Joy Reid, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC.
I'm also concerned with Net Neutrality in the Trump era.
