1. Sadly, it is the way of the majority.

While it isn't always true, when people don't feel they are affected by something, they look away. POC, Native Americans, GLBT, religious minorities, and women (among a host of others) are often considered 'disposable' and their lives don't matter as much as those of the majority population.
