Children Learn What They Live

If a child lives with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility, they learn to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule, they learn to be shy.
If a child lives with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If a child lives with tolerance, they learn to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If a child lives with praise, they learn to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness, they learn justice.
If a child lives with security, they learn to have faith.
If a child lives with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, they learn to find love in the world.

-- The Parents' Creed

I thought of this Creed, a copy of which hung in every exam room in my pediatrician's office, upon reading this post here on DU:

If you have not read it, I encourage you to do so. It shows what a fine human being our recent past President is and was, and serves as a stark contrast to the current occupant of the White House.

In no way do I excuse trump's behavior, but I do wonder what horrific upbringing helped to shape the twisted psyche of that man. He looks over our fine nation, made finer by Barak Obama, and sees only wreckage and carnage. Now he is seeking to remake America into that hideous place. He is seeking to break all that has not been broken, so that his awful vision becomes reality.

As we go forward with resistance into the hard days ahead, I hope we continue to follow Obama's example of patience, tolerance, confidence, justice, faith, and love. It is the only way we will win over darkness.
