3. I'm under no illusions about what's to come..

I am a general surgeon, leading a comfortable civilian life. I spent five years in active duty in the US Navy serving the US Marines. I deployed with them to Afghanistan and I've seen more of war than I ever care to see again. For my service in a forward surgical hospital, I was given awards from the marines I served and I came home with unique skills that allowed me to help educate and prepare new surgeons for their roles on deployments. I've been out of the service since 2013, but I am still in an inactive ready reserve state. My wife and I have already discussed what the future under President Trump will likely hold for us and our family. I'll certainly not be a willing participant in Mr Trumps Wars, but at the same time I know that I have experience that many in the current service do not have. I know that when all hell breaks loose, I will be called upon to again serve my country. My wife tries to joke and suggest we take refuge in Ireland or Germany, our ancestral homes, but she knows the truth. When I'm called, I will go, and it will be the hardest thing I've done in my life. I'll go, not because of our authoritarian leadership, but because I want to be able to share my skills to save lives.
