(90,865 posts)Last night we had another one of those all-caps OPs shouting that Dem leaders were doing nothing, and all I had to do was turn on my tv to see that a visible number of them had gone to their local international airport, just for starters.
The attempts to divide DU continues apace.

(24,324 posts)And I kinda resent the accusation.
I am aware that some Democratic reps/senators are visibly out there. (Cuomo, for example, ordered the NY Port of Authority to keep running the Air Train to JFK)
I feel that is important.. the visuals... I just wish more were ....visible........

(24,324 posts)Please do not assume I am one of whomever they are.
I call and/or email my reps every single day that I can.(I travel a good deal).. Schumer and Gillibrand, who actually are doing pretty well.
My actual rep is Chris Collins.. so forget that route..

(24,324 posts)Your assumption is incorrect.

(6,699 posts)They might bitch about democratic congressmen being ineffective or not doing anything, but that's not reality. I have yet to see a repuKKKe standing up for that precious Constitution they wipe their asses on.

But .. out of all our Dem senators and reps.. I sure would wish for more being visibly active.. if only to help support and encourage those out there protesting...
which, I admit, I am not at the moment...

(12,232 posts)Of that by seeing the reports here from local news and people at DU in the different states.
This was a rare instance of the people spontaneously going to the scene and of our Democratic leaders doing the same, all immediately and in solidarity.
Very powerful.

They worked with ACLU to gain release of immigrants detained there.
WA Governor Inslee, Seattle Mayor Murray, and many Seattle City Council members were also there and together they held a news conference denouncing Trump's order.
And our Senators spoke up against Trump's edict.

The Republicans are just another bunch of racist assholes that once confronted John Lewis - and lost.
John Lewis is patriotism personified.

(17,984 posts)Just went to the thread and read a lot (too many for my taste) nasty comments from deplorables. John Lewis has the thickest skin around. He is impervious. Quiet. Serene. Patient.
I do not have the composure that people like Lewis or Hillary have.

(10,924 posts)2 judges have stopped immediate deportation, but they will be indefinitely detained.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1016175764
Its a step in the right direction, but it still sucks mightily
Sorry about the preemptive strike. But I've seen in at least a half dozen places on DU tonight that the ban has been lifted or words to that effect. Sorry, no it has not. Unless one thinks of indefinite detention as a picnic in paradise. Especially under this regime.
Maybe they will give the detainees a copy of "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Day_in_the_Life_of_Ivan_Denisovich
The Nation has had some recent articles on what life in detention is like with shabby medical care
