STATEMENT BY SENATORS McCAIN & GRAHAM ON EXECUTIVE ORDER ON IMMIGRATION

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) released the following statement today on the President’s executive order on immigration:

“Our government has a responsibility to defend our borders, but we must do so in a way that makes us safer and upholds all that is decent and exceptional about our nation.

“It is clear from the confusion at our airports across the nation that President Trump’s executive order was not properly vetted. We are particularly concerned by reports that this order went into effect with little to no consultation with the Departments of State, Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security.

“Such a hasty process risks harmful results. We should not stop green-card holders from returning to the country they call home. We should not stop those who have served as interpreters for our military and diplomats from seeking refuge in the country they risked their lives to help. And we should not turn our backs on those refugees who have been shown through extensive vetting to pose no demonstrable threat to our nation, and who have suffered unspeakable horrors, most of them women and children.

“Ultimately, we fear this executive order will become a self-inflicted wound in the fight against terrorism. At this very moment, American troops are fighting side-by-side with our Iraqi partners to defeat ISIL. But this executive order bans Iraqi pilots from coming to military bases in Arizona to fight our common enemies. Our most important allies in the fight against ISIL are the vast majority of Muslims who reject its apocalyptic ideology of hatred. This executive order sends a signal, intended or not, that America does not want Muslims coming into our country. That is why we fear this executive order may do more to help terrorist recruitment than improve our security.”http://www.mccain.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/2017/1/statement-by-senators-mccain-graham-on-executive-order-on-immigration

From his speech to a Vatican conference

“Lenin,” he answered, “wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”

"I strongly believe that whatever the causes of the current drive to the caliphate was — and we can debate them, and people can try to deconstruct them — we have to face a very unpleasant fact: And that unpleasant fact is that there is a major war brewing, a war that’s already global. It’s going global in scale, and today’s technology, today’s media, today’s access to weapons of mass destruction, it’s going to lead to a global conflict that I believe has to be confronted today. Every day that we refuse to look at this as what it is, and the scale of it, and really the viciousness of it, will be a day where you will rue that we didn’t act "

From Wikipedia:

Apparently, an anti-semite and a wife abuser.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Bannon

"Bannon's first marriage was to Cathleen Suzanne Houff, born 1955.[86] Bannon and Houff had a daughter, Maureen, in 1988.[87][88] They divorced.[56]

Bannon's second marriage was to Mary Louise Piccard, a former investment banker, in April 1995. Their twin daughters were born three days later.[89][90]

Bannon was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence, battery and dissuading a witness in early January 1996, after Piccard accused Bannon of domestic abuse. The charges were later dropped when his now ex-wife did not appear in court.[91] In an article in The New York Times, Piccard stated her absence was due to threats made to her by Bannon and Bannon's lawyer:

Mr. Bannon, she said, told her that "if I went to court he and his attorney would make sure that I would be the one who was guilty"... Mr. Bannon’s lawyer, she said, "threatened me," telling her that if Mr. Bannon went to jail, she "would have no money and no way to support the children." ... Mr. Bannon’s lawyer ... denied pressuring her not to testify.[92]

Piccard and Bannon divorced in 1997. During the divorce proceedings, Piccard also stated that Bannon had made antisemitic remarks about choice of schools, saying that he did not want to send his children to The Archer School for Girls because there were too many Jews at the school and Jews raise their children to be "whiny brats". Bannon's spokesperson denied the accusation, noting that he had chosen to send both his children to the Archer School.[91][93][94][95][96]

Bannon's third marriage was to Diane Clohesy. That marriage also ended in divorce, in 2009.[97]"

The Senate needs 67 votes to impeach.

46 Democrats.
McCain
Graham
Makes 48

Think we could count on Cruz and Rubio? Now we are up to 50.

Has Trump pissed off any more Senators?

We'll get there by Spring.

Now if we can get the House to pass a Bill of Impeachment.

Ben Sasse, Jeff Flake also have been pretty critical of Trump.

Then there are the moderates like susan colins and the many backbenchers who could maybe be convinced. Some of these senators are never in the news, never heard of them.

If Trump continues to push the kind of crazy ass executive orders he has been signing, its going to change. Congress does not like their power usurped, they also dont like having their offices picketed every day and the press hounding them and forcing them to comment on every thing Trump does.

Even if you support the Muslim ban, I'd think you'd be embarrassed with how messy this executive order was implemented. I figure Drumpf pushed this through quickly because he thought he'd get a spike in his dismal poll numbers from his supporters.

And the result would be:
1) An endless Trump tirade of "I told you so."
2) Constitutional law goes into the ash heap.
3) Total fascist control of the U.S.; anyone who peeps in protest will be gulag-ed or "disappeared."

If I were younger, I'd get out now. Although much of the world is now in a nationalist mode (except Canada and NZ).

The details are sparse, there is no way this is going to stand for very long. It appears to me that this affects non-citizens coming to this country from one of 7 muslim countries for 120 days, i think.
If you have a green card, or dual citizenship, like Iraq and Canada, you are subject to additional screening.
there is just no way this is going to work, you can't make a huge change in immigration policy like this without at least some preparation, which they had none.
Trump just threw it out there, mass confusion ensues.
