The US is in the middle of a coup and hasn't realised, according to Michael Moore.
The filmmaker and journalist, who was one of the few famous people to publicly predict that Donald Trump would become President, has warned that the US state is being overthrown by Mr Trump and the people he has appointed to govern alongside him.
Linking to a New York Times piece about the role of senior advisor Steve Bannon, he posted on Twitter: "If you're still trying to convince yourself that a 21st century coup is not underway, please, please snap out of it".

(6,356 posts)...they'll sit back and say "whoa - I didn't see that coming".
In my entire life, if someone told me there might NOT be an election in 4 years I would have told them to share whatever they're smoking. Only sure things: death, taxes, and presidential elections every 4 years.
Today - I'm not so sure. The odds of cancelling it may be minuscule but the idea that it's NOT zero...that's a scary thought. With Bannon and asshat in the Oval, In my heart of hearts, I can not say the odds of cancelling 2020 are NOT zero. Maybe not huge...maybe not even 1%...but NOT zero.
That's scary (at least to me).

(1,182 posts)perhaps as far back as the East India Trading Company, when the empires of the old world began to fall, and the burgeoning masses began to formulate democratic ideas and ideals. When the rich merchant classes cut deals with the royals to give us faux democracies, but always tempered with the "cooling saucers" of the ruling elite. How quaint! How supercilious!
But that was in the days of whale oil and buggy whips, and all that "balance of powers" nonsense, which is now so crushingly obsolete. These so-called balances are an impediment to our survival, for they are whipsawing wildly out of control. No one is in charge now, and we'd better all get used to it.
All the old hierarchies of power, order and prestige, are being overthrown before our eyes, and a Global Direct Democracy must arise from the ashes, giving all peoples of this planet equal say, equal rights, the necessities of life, liberation from enslavement, and the true pursuit of happiness.
All the flags, borders, and racist restraints we impose invoke fear of each other, and are the jailers of our minds. They must be tossed into the dustbin of history. The last bars of our collective Black Iron Prison, so deeply imprinted into our minds, must be melted into slag once more. For even our plowshares now have become weapons of mass destruction.
And this I say unto you: so long as one person is unworthy of the Kingdom of Heaven none shall ingress. But as long as one is worthy, so are all the rest. --Plarramom
