Boycott Of Trump-Friendly Businesses May Be Having An Effect

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Eating See’s Candies in Ivanka Trump stilettos while taking an Uber home to watch The New Celebrity Apprentice would be activities targeted by a boycott of President Donald Trump and Trump-friendly businesses spearheaded by a San Francisco woman.

Dozens of businesses nationwide, including some based in the Bay Area, have made it onto Shannon Coulter’s #GrabYourWallet list.

Coulter started the list during the run-up to the November presidential election when she launched a boycott of Ivanka Trump’s clothing and shoe lines.

“We know how strong we are as consumers. We buy a lot of products from these stores. We buy a lot of clothing accessories, shoes, bags, you name it. And many of us are ready to flex that consumer power,” Coulter told KPIX 5 shortly after launching the boycott.

His voters are mostly rural, thus they do not use Uber or shop at stores like Nordstrom. That means city dwellers - who by and large are Democrats - comprise the majority of customers of these businesses. When large numbers of the majority clientele of a business start boycotting it, that business will feel some pain.

The electoral college may have screwed us. However, we can use our economic might to send important messages to those willing to give cover to the enemy. May the boycotts continue!

I've got gift cards up the ying yang that are paid for by vendors so I have to use them. I won't let them have the money without giving me the coffee. Maybe I can convince the vendors to stop buying them and give me Panera cards instead.

I avoid them and patronize small business roasters who sell only fair trade items, it's a little more expensive but totally worth it and the products are of better quality.

Plus, rich GOPers don't like the Trumps anyway and have more class than to buy the gaudy crap they push.

Have you seen all the gold in Trump's residences? Makes Saddam's palaces look elegantly understated by comparison.

The Trump name needs to become toxic in the merchandising world. That will allow it to become properly aligned with the Trump personality and his motto - "All for me and nothing for you!".

Boycotting is a very powerful tool. Companies and people like Trump usually do not care that much about boycotts because they know they are usually emotional in nature and subside quickly. We, as a nation, need to follow through to continuously and relentlessly boycott anything associated with his brand.

How can we get people in other countries to boycott Trump properties--those who visit the USA as well as those who visit any city with a Trump hotel or anyplace where he has a golf course? Personally, I would not stay in a Trump property for two reasons: because I do not want to enrich our illegitimate president and because I consider them a security risk, especially in other countries. With his anti-Muslim rhetoric, Trump-branded properties may become dangerous places to stay. I think most of these properties license his name only, but if the real owners lose enough money, they'll refuse to pay his license fees. Of course, the money he and the family are raking in from selling access to the president will probably make up the loss. Sad.
