She said she would be willing to do it, but they passed her up, what are they NUTS?? That's like the biggest disappointment, who else could drive Trump into Emotional orbit if not Rosie? They seriously fucked up.. and now who ever they pick, will never be as good.

It's a TV show, after all. It's creators have their own ideas. Who knows? Maybe they feel Alec Baldwin is all the big-identity persona it can hold.

Or maybe they feel casting an overtly politically hostile Trump opponent would drastically change the character and credibility of the show, which does try to lampoon both sides? I'm pretty sure it's not Trump they worry about but how to navigate in such choppy political seas.

Before the "election," it was hilarious. Now, though, it's about as "funny" and "amusing" as giving a toddler a loaded gun. What next? Making "funny sketches" about mothers being taken away from their crying children? Now, there's a real knee slapper!!11! Perhaps some synagogue/mosque arson jokes!!

Remember the White House Correspondents Dinner (hope I've got that right) where DT sat stone-faced while Obama good-naturedly roasted him?

They say that generated DT's relentless bizarre attacks on Obama.

Remember the line from Jack Woltz, the movie producer in The Godfather?

"She threw it all away just to make me look ridiculous. And a man in my position can't afford to be made to look ridiculous."

DT will simply shut out and deny any criticism. But he cannot stand being mocked.

You never make fun of someone who's truly downtrodden or in pain or has been hurt. You make fun of the powerful who need to be taken down a peg or two. They've been consistent with that. It's one of the most important parts of the gigantic human social contract since the days of the Court Jester and the Holy Fool. The inability to take it is one of the clearest indications of how socially sick this administration is.

SNL is providing a service by letting us know these people are not all powerful. They are mortal and can be stood up to.

That's my take.

Literally making fun of Hitler. And it's absolutely amazing. And very moving. It was done during the war, so many of the worst atrocities weren't completely known. I believe once the full extent of the horrors were known, he said he wouldn't have made it if he'd known. Others who lived through it (forgive me, I forget exact names) reassured him that it was exactly what was needed.

it's too bad we have to defend on snl and other comedy shows to really just tell it like it is.

but that's why i look forward to it. yes, it is funny but i don't' think i would look forward to it as much if the truth was being told by the regular news media.

i watch it to look for them to expose the truth.

But I concur with Lorne Michaels in that Bannon is so esoteric in his beliefs, the alt right, 4Chan apocalyptic nutter stuff, he's better represented by a guy in a death costume.

It would be hard to write the part and cast someone in the role that could be funny. As much as I like Rosie and as much as she could be made to look like him, I have doubts as to whether or not she could pull it off.

Now imagine the alternative to your scenario if she bombed.
