Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMay I ask for suggestions/ advice for a Mexican friend and crossing the border ??
She is about 30.
Dual citizenship, but Mexican by birth.
Lives in upstate NY. since I think about 1995.
Single.
Mother is Mexican, father was black (passed away) Both parents live(ed) in Jalisco, well educated,.
She has her father's black skin. It seems useful to say that-- here.
She has traveled to and from Mexico several times since moving to the US.
She has 1 sister living in Paris, brother in Philadelphia, and at least one other sister, I think 2. All well-educated.
She wants to visit family in Jalisco but is worried about getting back into the US..
I also have an email out to an immigration lawyer friend...
Any advice, suggestions, would be GREATLY appreciated.
Many thanks,

(26,366 posts)A passport or other accepted document that establishes the bearers identity and nationality is required in order to enter or re-enter the United States.
New Passport Requirements:
As part of U.S. Department of State's Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, all travelers are required to present a valid passport or other acceptable document(s) to enter or re-enter the United States (visitors and U.S. residents) from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.

(24,324 posts)I am familiar with the USCIS... boy am I ever- having gone through getting a visa for my ex-wife who is Chinese. :>
She certainly has a passport.. I texted her to ask which. I agree a US passport is best..
But then in another recent thread a fellow, natural American citizen, who works for NASA at the JPL went to Chile for vacation and was stopped in Houston coming back... took his phone to snoop etc... was eventually let in..
Thanks

(10,303 posts)Show the Mexicans the Mexican passport. Show the Americans the US passport.
Need Secretary of State or President to invalidate a naturalization. I doubt an US Customs and Immigration agent will go there.
My recommendation is to have the paperwork in order, then go visit parents. I doubt #45 will issue a travel ban to Mexico soon.
