Trump Administration Prepares to Execute Vicious Executive Order on Deportations

much more detail below the fold, and links to ICE details.

On January 25, Donald Trump signed two executive orders calling for a series of dramatic new measures aimed at hardening the country’s domestic immigration enforcement apparatus. Despite their grave implications for millions of undocumented immigrants living in the U.S., the measures were largely overshadowed by a particularly high-profile component of the directives — the construction of a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico — and receded further into the background two days later, when Trump signed another order banning travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.

Trump’s orders on border security and public safety in the interior of the U.S. resurrect some of the most controversial immigration enforcement programs of recent years, seek to deputize state and local law enforcement as immigration officials across the country, and threaten major cuts to federal funding for cities that fail to fall in line with the administration’s vision.

In order to address the massive strain those efforts would place on the nation’s already overburdened immigration system, Trump has called for the construction of new immigrant detention facilities along the U.S. border with Mexico — including through private contracts — as quickly as possible. Trump has also directed DHS to “allocate all legally available resources to immediately assign asylum officers to immigration detention facilities” for the purpose of conducting so-called credible fear hearings for asylum seekers. According to internal DHS communications obtained by The Intercept, this latter step is already underway.

In an email sent to personnel on Monday, Kathy Valerin, chief of staff at the Arlington Asylum Office for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, put out a call for asylum officer volunteers to conduct screening interviews at two for-profit immigrant detention facilities in Arizona as part of an ongoing effort to support the president’s orders beginning this week.

...He lost a few rounds with the Courts and has probably figured out that he can't really take it out on the Courts. So, who to blame ?

Immigrants of course. So let's extract as much pain as possible from the immigrant community. In his mind, it'll "give those f'ing liberal judges a thing or two to think about next time they want to cross me".

This is how malignant narcissist see the world...alternate facts, blame others for reality, extract revenge when the alternate facts become inarguable.

Step away from the fact that a rational person wouldn't have issued the initial EO but, for the sake of argument, assume a rational person was in his situation today. Strategically, he can get 99.99% of what he wants through some newly crafted, narrower and maybe more specific orders.

But in Trumpland - someone has to pay. I sure at some point he will say "We would have never had to take this strong enforcement action had the Courts just given me what I asked for".

This step up in immigration - it's what a presidential temper tantrum looks like.

IMHO, of course.

Monetizing the fear engendered by the order. Private industry, including no doubt contributors to Trump, will benefit from this fear promoting order.

Second, will the Justice Department coordinate with ICE to identify the employers of these undocumented workers with the goal of prosecution and imprisonment? One assumes not.

Recommended.

Losing battle even if every illegal immigrant in this country disappears in a puff of smoke....
will only slow the changing color demographics by one generation.

all this effort and resultant heartbreak for brief results.

Agreed, making America white is the barely hidden goal. But if they did eliminate every undocumented worker, who would do all of the work that they do and would employers pay a living wage to the documented workers who presumably would replace them?

hell with living wage, they want..seriously...dickensian times, when everyone fought for scraps and a poor paying dirty job.
There's a group who are pushing an agenda called the Fourth Turning

Info here:

Steve Bannon's obsession with a dark theory of history should be worrisome

President Trump's adviser, Steve Bannon, is on the cover of this week's Time magazine, and in the piece it is revealed that Bannon deeply believes in a theory about America's future laid out in a book called "The Fourth Turning: What Cycles of History Tell Us About America's Next Rendezvous with Destiny."

A very disturbing article about a very disturbing man.

From the article:

"The Fourth Turning" is the story of our country unifying against internal struggles and an outside threat. The authors describe it as the natural course of history, as something that just falls into place. Instead, what we are seeing, with Trump's travel ban and his threats against Mexico and China, is the creation of enemies, enemies many Americans don't want to have.
Instead of uniting us, Bannon's belief in "The Fourth Turning" is dividing us. This is dangerous, uncharted territory. What comes next is, as always, unwritten.

Use fear and chaos as a pretext for imposing a 1% dictatorship. 1984 updated for the 21st Century.

But the Muslim ban sucked all of the oxygen out of the room. And then they deported Guadalupe, and things crystallized for me.

The immigrants are first. Then the Muslims. Then dissidents, like us. We can't let them get past Step One. The positives are that Trump is stupid/senile, Bannon and Miller are batshit crazy and not insiders, and the intelligence community is already bypassing them. Other more established DC groups will do so also. Eventually, Congress with have to go against them or all be voted out. It will be pure survival for them.

I want to know why the media hasn't been on this all weekend. It just infuriates me, how easily they are distracted This is their lives they might be fighting for, too.
