The Environmental Protection Agency shall terminate on December 31, 2018.
The bill, introduced by Florida Republican Matt Gaetz and co-sponsored by Kentuckys Thomas Massie, Mississippis Steven Palazzo, and Georgias Barry Loudermilk doesnt bother with anything like wondering what happens to the data the agency collects, or the enforcement the agency carries out. It doesnt sweat the details of employees or contracts. Theres nothing about what happens to the Clean Air Act, or the Clean Water Act, or the Endangered Species Act, or anything at all.
Just terminated.
Of course, Republicans already have an alternative means of destroying the EPA in place. Under Scott Pruitt, the plan is already underway to subvert and pervert the agencys mission, to make sure it is critically understaffed, to turn it into a prime example of a non-functional bureaucracy.
So its likely that Gaetzs bill wont get the support it needs. This time.
EPA, Consumer Finance Protection Agency, Election Assistance Commission, financial regulatory agencies, they are going to destroy this country before they make it great again? Soon we'll be left with just a military and border patrol?

(4,835 posts)These people think they're pleasing their constituents, but the EPA does more than enforce environmental regulations.
Just for fun Google 'MyWaters Google earth' you can download a .kmz file that shows the outline of every watershed and drainage area in the country.
This 'repeal all regulations' thing is just a fad. Too many republicans are dependent on these government entities for commerce and development.
Only the truly stupid republican congresspersons (and Trump of course) are trying to pull this kind of thing off. Serious people are gonna put a stop to it long before anything comes of it.
We need to tweak environmental regulations that are applied with too broad a stroke, but that's hard work, and this is just silly nonsense.

(3,209 posts)I told them this was horrible and what can i do to make sure it does not happen. I do not expect a reply.
Why do the rich people/businesses who are so against the EPA think that they will somehow be immune to the pollutants in the air and water? Not a very smart bunch, are they?
And I agree, I think the plan to "make America great again" relies on torching it to the ground so that no matter what they do after that will seem like an improvement.
