Unprecedented. Raleigh, NC - forecast highs - our weather is about to jump the shark...

Note that since World War II, there have been only THREE DAYS of 105 - and they were in different years. Consecutive days of 105 is unprecedented. And if we hit 106 (which a few models seem to show) - we are talking all time record. In June. Summer is just beginning.

I'll be out watering at 9 at night. The only good thing about this is that it will force me indoors to work on a project I've been putting off for months: two rooms' worth of window treatments. Ugh, those poor people who work outdoors.

Will legislatures pass laws regulating things like modulus of elasticity or mechanical resonance? Let the GOP get into power and they'll tell those mechanical engineers a thing or two about how bridge construction should be done!

How about antibiotics? I can hear it now: "Doctors need to stop talking about the evolution of drug-resistant bacteria!"

I've got news for the science deniers: neither the ocean nor the bacteria give a damn what laws you pass.

21. The thing about plants - it is natural for them to wilt during the hot part of the day -
Wed Jun 27, 2012, 10:04 PM
Jun 2012

it is the leaves' way of conserving surface area. I've had to get over this - I deeply water my garden, then with the heat of the noon day sun, the cucumber plants, tomato plants, etc visibly wilt. It's OK - once the sun goes down they will recover just fine.

What will kill the plants is an extended period of wilt/dry - if the heat of the day makes the soil dust dry, but the plants aren't watered that evening.

so get the plants watered well in the morning - if you have time after the really hot days, top the plants off a bit in the evening. Once the sun goes off them, they should look good.

Hydrangeas do look particularly bad on a hot afternoon...but they will perk up.

Keep the faith, everyone - but as many mention, the most concern is pets, elderly, homeless. This will be a very difficult stretch to endure.

And there is always that chance that the weatherman is wrong!

It's not global warming - it's GOD's WILL. We're all gonna be in his company eventually anyway - Right? Why not just kick back and trust that he'll do what's right by his "children".
You know - he's implementing famine in Africa. Maybe it's a "fast-track" for souls to join him in heaven, no? Maybe he's giving us the same "welcome home".
