I posted this on a redneck site...

and you would not believe the responses! Well, you would, but you shouldn't if you know what i mean. Anyway i was traveling in Portugal and stayed in a small cabin in a vineyard. One night i stepped off a small step and broke my foot. The owner, who lived next door, heard the crash and called the local doctor at 3AM! Try and do that here. Anyway, doc said i need a hospital for some xrays and had an ambulance ride of 40 miles to nearest hospital. In less than 10 minutes I had an exray done and in less than 15 mins had a cast put on leg. Now the interesting part is that NO ONE, BUT NO ONE, asked me for money as do our compassionate brethren here, until the end. Since I had not kept up my European residency, I had to pay the normal rate. Any takers as to how much all that cost? 125.00 dollars!!!!
Of course the reaction i got after being accused of being a liberal etc, some cretin answered with a comment saying "oh typical. Where do you think the money is coming from? You want to sit home and wait for the govt to look after you?' To which I answered "no you illiterate uninformed illiterate redneck, I expect it to be paid from my taxes. However, contrary to a certain country i wont mention, at least I know where my money is going and it is to a worthy cause. Better to care for the citizens health rather than toss trillions for weapons and other barbaric practices", Well no need to comment on the answers which were restricted to a few word mostly comprising of the word F!

I won't begrudge you the sentiment, but if you're going to call someone illiterate, proofread yourself!

7. why

Is it because i repeated a word? Besides. I call people illiterate once it is obvious their responses are nothing more than knee jerk reactions to a particular situation which has been discussed ad nauseum on talk shows. A good example is that of Obama not being American. People went along with it because they couldn't think of anything else to condemn him for so go for the easiest and most popular drumbeat. That is ignorance and illiterate in my eyes. Having an opposite point of view is a prerogative we all have (or should have) but at least make sure it is your opinion, thought out, and backed by facts, before whipping out the shotgun based on someone else's opinion!

Granted, I doubt they'll notice, but it makes my inner editor wince and want to pull out a big red marker.

If only DU had an indent option... Drives me mad. MAD, I say!

In the case of rednecks, their classic last words are, "Hey! Watch this!"

You'd think they would WANT health care but they're so stupid they can't think for themselves and believe free health care from the gubmint is gonna deestroy amerikah....

(Actually, they're pissed because they believe their money is being stolen for "Obamacare" which they truly believe only covers black people.)

And on another note. Your story may have went over better if you didn't stoop to their level by insulting them. Yes, I agree that they are usually insanely misinformed but you will never educate/change anyone using these tactics.
Be calm be sarcastic, You might actually get your point across better.

The great unwashed, poorly educated and ignorant folk who comprise a large part of the population? No too long and with our attention span of 3 seconds, will hardly deserve a second glance. Sorry but redneck it will have to be. Besides, I was born Jewish though I am a devout atheist now, but i learned to disregard the use of the word Kike. If it pleases the person using that word, then so be it. He will feel vindicated and victorious and will therefore refrain from more harmful ways of passing the time of day/ So if the word redneck offends you, move on to something else which will not offend you. Besides, how can a person become a douche and who would want to be one anyway?

And I wasn't accusing you of being a douche. I'm on your side on this.
Yes they may be poorly educated/Programmed by the GOP with blatant bullshit
and calling them out on it is always good,
I was commenting on the delivery of calling themm out.
When I reply on the interweb boards to wingers,
I reply in mind that several people will read what I write.
If I use logic and common sense to deliver my replies maybe it wont look (to the
the people reading it) like two political hacks arguing.
I'd rather post links and calmly discuss my side without the stereotyping.
That's all.
