Despite being a rabid HRC supporter, I now see the greater good that has come about since she lost the election.
The threat to our national security due to her email server, a headline story for months, has now completely disappeared from the news. I can only assume that this is due to that ominous threat having coincidentally ended on election night. I dont know about the rest of you, but I now sleep a lot easier at night knowing this dangerous threat to our safety was somehow eradicated the minute Trump was elected.
The overwhelming problem of her Benghazi involvement, also coincidentally, ceased to be problematic at the exact moment the election was called for Trump. Kudos to those PTB who, after endless investigations, somehow resolved our long national nightmare in a single 24-hour news cycle last November.
Being a great admirer of Hillarys, I am particularly happy with the sudden turnaround in her health. After months of reading about her suffering from dementia, seizures, Alzheimers, a brain concussion along with the mind-altering drugs she had to take to counteract the effects of the many life-threatening conditions she was reportedly suffering from I am thrilled to see that she has somehow pulled back from imminent death and appears to be in perfect health.
I am forever grateful that Hillary not being elected POTUS means we no longer have to fear the wars we were told she was determined to start, specifically with Russia. Instead, we can all rest easy that we have someone in the White House who has such a close, intimate relationship with Putin that there is literally nothing the Russians can do that would cause him to stop praising their leaders every move.
But the real upside of Hillarys loss is that those who warned us she was a corporatist who would place her Goldman-Sachs, billionaire buddies in Cabinet positions were heeded, and their encouragement of others to vote third party to avoid that catastrophe really paid off. Congratulations to those who saved us from having monied, out-of-touch, clueless incompetents put in positions of power simply by virtue of their financial wherewithal and/or their generous campaign contributions.
Lets face it, fellow Hillary supporters. Things have apparently turned out for the better, when you consider how many of HRCs problems are suddenly not problems any more. The things that were an overwhelming threat to our national security have miraculously been dealt with to the point where they no longer warrant so much as a mention by the MSM.
Thanks to all of those who refused to vote for Hillary. You helped us dodge so many bullets that now no longer seem to exist.

(81,322 posts)Sometimes I get one of those random wincing moments - where I'm feeling quite heartsick.
What a waste.
The talent we can't have in that Oval Office.
Those brains.
That heart.
That compassion.
That resourcefulness and creative thinking and problem-solving.
I want a wonk in that office - who gets all the complexities, who bothers to read the briefing papers, who has high reading comprehension, who's put an almost Herculean effort into the hard work of public service over the span of decades.
She might actually have solved some of the problems that still nag us.
That's all lost to us now - at a moment when we sure need those attributes at work for this country. Instead, we have a vainglorious half-baked orange turd, who's only in it for the money, power, and dominance.

(5,106 posts)Funny, but I can't ever recall that ever having been an issue with a president (or candidate) in my now seventy years. Just never a consideration. As a retired reading specialist, I'd put Trump's reading level at fairly early elementary level and have his vocabulary in line with a mediocre junior high student. He has displayed all the usual "faking it" as an adult with poor reading skills (Has anyone ever seen him wearing glasses? Forgot his glasses, indeed) Expensive schooling in an era when many reading problems were neglected would pass a rich kid, who's parents wouldn't note or worry about such problems, and if they did notice, might be embarrassed to acknowledge them. No question.

(10,495 posts)in the short term. The only thing we can do from here is use Trump and the Republicans evil and insane actions to gain back local, state, and federal seats! When we do we need to work to bust up Wall Street and the media, eliminate campaign donations (bribes), and once again repair the inevitable damage done by the Republicans after they leave power.
This time we must actually prosecute the ones that broke the law. That will put a halt to most of the fraud we are subject to. We need to make sure the Republicans work in digging their own graves gets completed in 2018 and 2020!

(2,809 posts)I haven't really studied the age demographics of this last disaster... er... I mean, election. But at the rate I see the senile red-hat wearing useful idiots watching Faux noise from their hospital beds is unprecedented.
I honestly thought the Rethugs had dug their own grave after Ronnie's relatively mild series of gaffes, and especially the "religious right" at the time that embarrassed themselves magnanimously. I believe that they (rethugs) got lucky with an economic boon, to follow that clown show with GHWB.
I still have chronic headaches from the number of facepalms unavoidable during GWB's term. And thought, surely, this time, the R's have learned their lessons well enough to prevent another polluting or economy-wrecking corporatist debacle.
Yet the newspeak channel keeps 40 percent of our citizens dazed and confused, and with the illusion of clarity and veracity. I still point to the RayGun year's repeal of the fairness doctrine as having potentially dug all our graves for us.
One can always hope. Meantime, since the hopey-changey thing has been replaced with the fatalist regressive long con, providing the Drumph doesn't get us nuked or the bell curve of climate change doesn't turn the entire Midwest into a dust bowl to make the previous one look like a minor disaster...

(5,106 posts)The saddest thing is that, unlike most other "democratic" governments, we don't allow "do over" elections. The Constitution is long overdue for an updated convention; NOT just another amendment. This is not the first time (why always the Democrats?) that the electoral college has negated the popular vote. But TWICE in sixteen years? As it stands, Paul Ryan could end up as POTUS. After that, just a long line of scary nonentities. Not a good plan. I'm sure you've checked it out. WTF be done can actually?

I am truly angry about the election results. so angry that I'm moving back to the states after living in Europe for 2.5 yrs. I need to channel this anger and moving back to my red state (AZ) and fighting with the Resistance is my motivation. No matter how difficult it is for this late 50s (yr old) body to move.

(45,806 posts)so strongly believed in the Con get to eat their words & beliefs for breakfast lunch & dinner! For many many years I've herd how great it would be if we elected a non politician to finally get our government working right. I HOPE they will now understand why we never did that stupid move!
Having said that, I also believe it's a good thing that Hillary lost. Do you have any idea where we would be if she were president and had a Repub Congress? I don't think I can count high enough to enumerate how many hearings, accusations & flast out time wasters there would be. Chafitz is still mourning the opportunity he missed by having to give up his search on Benghazi and Hill's responsibility for the failure.
I'm happy for Hillary that she doesn't have to endure that disaster, and she can sit back and watch as her predictions come true! Remember, "He doesn't have the ability to be POTUS!"

(15,369 posts)heartbroken that while I appreciate the message and snark, it still brings me to tears.
But Hillary will never stop working for us all, even though some never appreciated her one whit - and still don't. Screw them forever! Hillary would have been a President for ALL Americans even though the terrible insults, slanders and lies have STILL NOT stopped and likely never will.
I am STILL with her. To me, voting for Trump - or not voting or voting for anyone other than Hillary - and STILL not regretting those choices are absolute lines in the sand. I do NOT want such people in my life at all. They will not be welcome in my home or anywhere near my personal space - whether they are family members or consider themselves "friends."
What is amazing to me is that some still do consider themselves friends. They seem to think that I'll "get over it." But these differences are not simply political differences that can be accepted - even when difficult - as with Bush II. They are existential lifestyle changes and I simply will NEVER "get over them."
As for family members I must meet in certain situations (holidays, weddings, funerals, etc.), I will be minimally courteous. But I will remove myself from their presence as soon as possible and will avoid such occasions like the plague.
I am DONE with them. They'll literally have to crawl back. If they don't, I won't miss them at all. My life is a very full one without them.

And there are still assholes who whine "She DESERVED to lose! She ran a terrible campaign!" But when you point out that she won the popular vote by 3 million, they have nothing to say. And when you ask them "how much better a campaign would she have had to run for you to prefer her over what we have now?" they shut down completely.

I'm very angry at the leftists who didn't support our Dem candidates for president or congress claiming they weren't liberal enough or some such bullshit. Allowing these sociopaths to take control over all 3 branches of government is already screwing us all. The people who didn't vote for our Dem candidates should be ashamed of themselves.
America is very vulnerable right now due to our incompetent leadership and empty positions in many national security roles. Meanwhile our Republican Congress is gleefully gutting social programs, regulators, scientific research, destroying our environment, and eliminating entire agencies.
The only positive hope is that this will energize liberals to throw these assholes out of office.

(13 posts)Let's stop with this ridiculous narrative that HRC "lost" the election. Clearly she was elected but the results were tampered with in WI, PA and MI. Corrupt Republican officials and Russian operatives tipped it just enough to give those states fraudulently to Don the Con. In Michigan, he "won" by less than 11,000 votes and there are STILL 80,000 ballots from Detroit that have never been counted because Republicans won't allow it. LESS THAN 80,000 votes determined those three states. It was easy for the electronic voting machines to be manipulated just enough to slightly edge him over the top. Combined with Kobach's purge of legally registered voters of color throughout the midwest and south, that's how the Trump coup was orchestrated and he put into office - ILLEGALLY. So please, don't refer to her loss. She didn't lose. Period.

(22 posts)Great post! I notice H.A. Goodman, rabid Hillary hater has been absent from Salon.com for quite a while. I came to distrust Salon, Mother Jones, and The Nation during the primary and even during the GE because of their extreme often factless attacks on Hillary. If you read some of their on-line comments there are still some Hillary haters blaming her for Trump winning. The Purity Progressives ran Hillary down with the same intensity of RW Clinton haters and pro-Bernie folks booing her at the convention was shocking and sickening. Real people are going to suffer now, including myself, a person who has serious health issues and am not sure what is going to happen with health coverage. I am sad with what is happening in our country in so many ways it feels like a hellish nightmare. I hold anyone who was a Democrat and who cares about truly Progressive policies responsible for Donald Trump if those same individuals did not vote for Hillary by staying home or by giving Donald Trump their vote via a vote for Jill Stein.
