Yesterday while getting my physical the nurse and I were going over the questionnaire. I chuckled at a few of them and she told me "I know. These are dumb. It's from Obamacare but don't worry, Trump is going to fix it."
I laughed in her face and asked her what exactly had she seen in the last month that would lead her to believe Trump was capable of fixing ANYTHING?
She told me it's not his fault, he inherited a huge mess.
I said, Oh really? Obama inherited two wars, the great Recession, and a stock market at 6000. He handled his business like a boss.
She was speechless and walked out.
Call them out DUers. No more taking the high road. Make them eat this shit sandwich they created.

(15,369 posts)It is so sad to hear that there are ANY medical professionals who still don't "get it" about the ACA.
When I am in the US, I live in a very blue part of a very blue state with outstanding medical professionals. So I am in a sort of bubble. But it's a bubble that I wish ALL Americans could live in.

(129,105 posts)try to find some "commonalities" between/among others, even in a professional setting, in order to "break the ice". The problem is that certain subjects like politics and religion, are polarized, so it often behooves to tread lightly when attempting to engage in those subjects.
Once a commonality is found (as I noted in post #7 regarding my own primary doctor), the gully washer is unleashed! (and if that nurse had determined that she had a like-minded patient, the same would have probably happened)

The very next day, I called the office of the housing agent and told them that I didn't appreciate hearing his political views that had nothing to do with showing us temporary housing. I was blunt and firm but didn't go on any rage either. I just voiced that I wasn't going to deal with someone that was that immature on the job. We never had to deal with him again.

Whats unusual about the administrations forecasts isnt just their relative optimism but also the process by which they were derived, writes Timiraos. Transition officials telling the CEA staff the growth targets that their budget would produce and asking them to backfill other estimates off those figures.
What does this mean? Trump is assuming much faster economic growth. In fact, Trump is telling his economists to predict an average of between 3 and 3.5 percent over the next decade, with a final goal of 3.2 percent. However, that total is much higher than that provided by the Congressional Budget Office and the Federal Reserve, both of which assume the economy will grow at a more moderate 2 percent.

(9,114 posts)The nurse/ aide/ assistant came in while I was immobile in the chair, to prep me, and immediately started promoting dRumpf. Jumped right into it, no preamble, out of the blue. Because the repugs always have to tell everyone how it is. She left the door open, so I could hear that the dentist/surgeon and other staff were right outside while she loudly gave her plug for her hero. If her bosses weren't fans, she wouldn't have been doing it.
I understood instantly that they were taking the opportunity of making me feel like Dustin Hoffman in Marathon Man, and I'd better give the right answer. A little fear based power play. Conversion therapy.
I told her he was a clown, mobbed up, ton of nazi buddies, Putin's lackey, and I wouldn't vote for him for dog catcher.
She backed off a bit, instead of getting mad and negative with me, then tried to explain how she liked him since he was going to give us all a 3 day weekend, and "don't you want that?" Who knows where she got that one, never heard it before or since, either she made it up on the spot, or was listening to some deep underground pro-nazi-drumpf fake news source. I said 'yeah, he's not going to do that, never heard that one'. So she quit, and started talking about her family.
I wasn't really blasting her, just letting her boss who was about 10' away know the lay of the land. And he kept his pro-dRumpf opinions to himself, when he came in to drill saw and yank.

Rxpcraig
(4 posts)My dealing with it is directly with my pharmacy patients/customers. They often referred to it as Obamacare. Many of them are just misinformed and some just have an ideological view that will never be changed. The seniors were the first to start benefiting from the ACA with refund checks ($250, if I remember correctly) as well as the change in gap coverage. It used to be where they had to pay 95% of the cost was changed to 50%. So, I was very enthusiastic to convey to my customers changes and see the law making a difference right away. Those seniors never complained about it. I am seeing more people talk about universal health with me and it will start taking on momentum.

(4 posts)The ACA has become quite important to millions of people. The provisions in the ACA have positive effects for ALL insured. I think it will be hard for this law to be repealed. All the talk of the repeal of the ACA from the GOP and Annoying Orange will amount to nothing. They appear to have put themselves in a corner.

(16,199 posts)The regulation only covered persons who had a trustee managing their finances. A mentally ill person, such as someone with schizophrenia, who has always been voluntarily treated and never was institutionalized involuntarily (by a judge declaring that they were mentally incompetent) can buy a gun in any state. The due process requirement of the Constitution only allows the denial of rights and privileges after due process (where an individual is facing a deprivation of life, liberty, or property, procedural due process mandates that he or she is entitled to adequate notice, a hearing, and a neutral judge). The burden is naturally on the state to prove why they must deprive the person of their rights, and it's a high burden of proof as expected.
I have a friend who is diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic and takes medicine for the condition. She lives a normal life with her husband in a northern state and owns rifles. She is no threat to others nor herself.

(23,105 posts)She was born that way, her daddy was a repug mayor in GA, and she was raised deep in the shit. She started off talking about how smart don the con is. I then asked her if she knew his dad was a milionaire, yes, she said. I asked if she was aware that per daddy;s tax fililngs (didn't mention drumpfs' lies, but she got it, she's smart) he loaned drumpf $67 million dollars. Yes, she had seen that. I asked had she thought about it? If he invested that $ in stock market, he'd now be worth $17 billion and he's only worth (by his own claims) $3-4 billion, so in truth he's lost $13-14 billion dollars and I didn't think that seemed so smart. Toned way down, she agreed with me. She also agreed he'd be a nightmare with Medicare, and Social Security based on his actions after he was elected. Yes, she had noticed the change and was pissed off!
When I talked to the AA ex-military male nurse at my dr. appt. and he made nice noises about so-called prez cutting taxes and increasing jobs, I asked if he had noticed about drumpfs position on ACA and how the hospital had done so much hiring since that was passed due to increased availabiity of healthcare and that if that is repealed with no "affordable replacement", hospital will lose $ and people will lose jobs. He got mad and walked out and made another nurse come to my room.

(4,291 posts)Years prior, I had a good rapport with my doc, but he retired and transferred all his patients to Dr. B. It was obvious that she was in medicine for the money (ordering me to take vitamin supplements which she happened to sell out of her office), and during one physical exam complained to me at length about how the reduced Medicare payments are hurting her practice.
The last straw was during the campaign for President Obama's re-election. She had placed an anti-Obama countdown clock/calendar at her checkout window, and I told her staffer that I thought it was inappropriate. The staffer apologized but said that Dr. B wanted it there despite the complaints by patients. My response was that I'll find another physician.
My new doc is a 10-mile-drive away -- I used to walk from my office to Dr. B's -- but there is no politicking. Also, no pushing of expensive-urine (vitamin supplement) products. I'm paying higher health insurance premiums, but the quality of care is worth it!
The only other drawback is the annual prostate exam: his index finger is a lot larger than hers was.

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]I've had both a dental assistant and an optometrist start spouting off about their religious/political opinions while receiving care. I merely deflected both at the time, but never went back to that dental office and reported the optometrist to the patient services department of the group for which she worked.
Also, while I was an inpatient right after surgery a few years ago, a nurse started bitching about the ACA. She stalked out of my room in a huff when I said I strongly supported both it and President Obama. The head nurse became visibly angry when I reported the incident and I never saw that nurse again during my stay.
That kind of behavior is by its nature aggressive, extremely unprofessional, and creates a very uncomfortable patient-provider relationship. The first time was a shock and I didn't quite know how to respond other than to deflect, but I've become more assertive with each incident. They should be shut down completely and reported whenever they display such behavior.
